t is so hard to decide which coffee tour to do in Salento but we wanted a small and personal tour…not traipsing around in a crocodile. The reviews of Finca Don Eduardo were great and it was also only a short walk from the town square. From the minute we arrived we were greeted by Don José….aka Joey…. With a smile . We then had the best tour possible. Informative and entertaining carefully explained and opportunities to ask questions. We did the tour in English but they offered French and Spanish too. No booking needed. We read that the tour started at 9.30 and we turned up 20 minutes before at the clearly marked gate. We learned the whole process from the bean to the soil to the bean to the cup and more. The history of coffee from it’s discovery in Ethiopia to the present day. The gardens where we had the talk and then the coffee farm itself are immaculately maintained. Beautiful flowers and trees all around. This farm obviously means so much to them and the passion came across. We really felt part of something special. The trip culminated in roasting our own beans and drinking the coffee. Just brilliant and I will tell everyone who comes here to do this tour. David and...
Read moreI was here September 2023, and absolutely loved the tour. While most other tours that the hotels promote/book you in to are quickly brushing over the topics and are done in 1.5 hours, this one is going into the theory of coffee, with a very knowledgeable and inspiring guide. I learnt so much, and I've been to coffee plantations/ growers in multiple countries, including Indonesia. This tour beats that. And it's reachable by foot! It was also helpful to at least myself to have someone talk about the theory of great coffee in their mother tongue, English - my own Spanish is very limited and a lot would have been lost in translation without having it done by a native English speaker, or someone who at least spoke decent English. Fantastic experience! Thank you so much Don Eduardo coffee (As for insects which some mention. You're in Colombia, out in nature, it's unavoidable - wear mosquito spray. But it is when the sun is setting that you really need to cover up, had no problems during the tour - but then again I...
Read moreA highlight of our time in Salento! We did this during a rainy day and we’re impressed with how informative and comprehensive the tour was. Don Eduardo is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the craft and local area. You start right off the main road by the Plantation House Hostel with a chat with Don Eduardo, then you take a short nature walk down to the actual farm to see more plants and the bean drying process, next back to the main area to roast coffee and sample a delicious cup. The area is beautiful and we learned a ton! This is the only tour in Salento where you get to roast the coffee, and overall it feels much more familiar and conversational than a tourist trap. Don Eduardo and his wife answered all our question and were happy to provide other recommendations for the area, as they’ve been doing this for over 19 years. The walk down to the farm was a bit muddy after the rain, so wear hiking boots if you have them. Would...
