Osa de Rio — Hotel in Bahía Ballena

What a wonderful hidden gem. This stay was well worth the price. I have never seen a kitchen in a boutique hostel with every utensil and item you would need. They make coffee, have complementary cook it yourself, eggs, oatmeal and rice. They have fruit all throughout the garden, that we were welcome to including wonderful starfruit. They provide a fully stocked kitchen and stocked bathrooms with quality products. The individual stay rooms provide great privacy. There is a section of the hostel that provides, sunscreen, bug spray, floatation devices for the river, board games and yoga mats. I used books from the little free book library and used their shared art supplies while I was there. I was offered help arranging transportation around the city to the local artisan market and the National Park, however they are walking distance to the grocery store, the best restaurants around, the bus station, parks, shopping, cofee shops, waterfalls, the river and more. We stayed for one night, on a random find. It really was a perfect stop. The owner is very helpful with tours and things to do in the area. His property joins the river, and an easy walk/wade to the waterfalls. It's about a 15 minute walk for an able person. The room was super cool durning the day and night. We had no need for A/C or the fan. The owner speaks a few different languages, which is handy for non English speaking guests. We had a BBQ meal with other guests and was a really nice experience to sit and talk about traveling stories. The house is situated near the waterfall in Uvita, a good walk from the road where the bus drops you (you can take a cab, on foot it took us 15-20 minutes). The rooms are very nice, big, with comfortable beds, and the common bathrooms are clean and new. There is a nice garden to relax and the owners are simply amazing! They will do anything to make your stay perfect, giving you tips, finding transportation and even grocery shopping for you when they drive to town. We had an excellent time there, visiting the waterfall, the beach, playing with their pets (a dog and a cat) and having dinner with them and the other guests!
