We stayed SIXTEEN nights at La Finca Chica in their 1 bedroom Superior Villa (Casa Pizote) 27th Oct to 14th Nov 2019 - didn't want to leave and DEFINITELY wish to stay there again!! Fresh, clean, modern and surrounded by jungle plants and wildlife (hard to get going some mornings!) Guatusa, humming birds (saw them when sat on the toilet!!), Iguana, gecko, toucan, monkeys, lorakeet, little river turtle, sloth and many others - didn't see any 'nasties' so can't comment on that side of things.||The owners (Emilio and Jenny) and employees are great and really helpful.||2 big supermarkets and restaurants within 2/3 minutes walk. Beautiful empty beach within 5 mins walk - BEWARE of the currents, they are very powerful even for a strong swimmer, but if you walk 25 mins north (left) up the beach and along the jungle path (saw monkeys there too) towards Puerto Viejo there are some lovely little and private-ish spots to relax and swim.||Finca Chica is so well placed to visit everywhere between Cahuita, Manzanillo, BriBri etc whether you choose to hire a bike, scooter or catch a bus. Watch the road after dark though - catch a tuk-tuk or such, generally 2000 colones.||Places to visit - JRC, Great Green Macaws, Cahuita, Manzanillo, Bribri waterfalls.... and obviously bars, restaurants, live music and Caribbean PURA VIDA vibes.||If you're planning a stay in this amazing area, looking for a private, quiet, self-catering stay in a beautifully designed 'jungalow' and are not looking for a very expensive per night all-inclusive type of accommodation then THIS IS THE PLACE...
Read moreWe stayed 3 nights at Finca Chica.||For 2 people we did not get one of these more bungalow like looking houses but a very small place that had more a feeling of being in a garage. The kitchen was a separate entrance. Both rooms were locked with big doors. When we arrived all windows and doors were open and bugs were inside the rooms. This included 8 centipedes, spiders and some flies. What looked clean as a first sight wasn't so clean. Under the bed it was quite dirty. Also the power plugs and edges of the room, under the bed, etc., were sandy and dirty. The shower gave not much water and the room doors where hard to lock and to unlock. There were 2 dogs that barked at night. Around 5am a rooster started to make noice (every day). Also, I got strange bites on my feet and I am not sure if they were from mosquitos or from sth else. The bed frame was very old so maybe bugs. The internet was okay near the main house (where the family lives) but not existing within our rooms.||The light were not enough to read a book when the door was closed. Also, there was a power outage that laster 4 hours.||Owners where nice and helpful.||||Overall, I know that the average comfort is a bit lower on the carribean side of Costa Rica. Still, I think this was an overpriced experience. I can't understand the ratings by others. Maybe the other...
Read moreWe are still shaken from our experience last night. We booked a bungalow in advance and arrived at around 8pm in the evening. For medical reasons I am in need of an assistance service dog. When we arrived and the owner Emilio saw me and my dog he said in a very harsh tone that we are absolutely not allowed to stay at his place. Reasoning that his dogs are very aggressive and dangerous and have killed another guest’s dog in the past. I tried to explain to him that I cannot be without my dog for medical reasons, trying to show him the official documents. He didn’t even let me speak nor did he even listen. He started to yell, agressively sent us off his property. Emilio refused to help us find a new place. Since it was already late and raining crazily it was very difficult to find some other place with such short notice.
At one point I didn’t speak nicley to him myself, because I was hurt, felt disrespected and not heard. Which made him even more aggresive and lose his temper. At this point I was afraid.
I have never experienced something like this. Someone that didn’t respect me for my disease, didn’t listen or communicate like a grown up. And whilst all of that didn’t even help. We were desperate.
