Pita Hummus House — Restaurant in Cahuita

We visited this restaurant for dinner as a group and ordered the chicken shawarma with fries and some falafel on the side. The falafel was actually quite nice, but unfortunately, the shawarma was very disappointing. It didn’t resemble a traditional shawarma at all — it tasted more like a chicken curry covered in sauce, and the flavour just wasn’t good. The fries were soggy, likely because they were drenched in sauce from the shawarma. Overall, it lacked any authentic Middle Eastern taste or ingredients.

We didn’t complain at first, but eventually, we all stopped eating, and about a third of the food on each plate was left untouched. When we raised this with the staff, we found ourselves dealing with a child rather than an adult, which made it difficult to resolve the issue properly. The child went to speak with someone in the back and returned to tell us that nothing could be done, before taking away our plates — only to then insist that we still had to pay the full amount.

We explained that we were willing to pay for what we had eaten, including the starters, and even be generous, but we were told again that nothing could be done. After much discussion and having to explain how such situations should be handled, we were reluctantly given a 20% discount, and eventually one plate was removed from the bill — which still felt unfair given the circumstances.

Our visit to Restaurante Medio Oriente was an absolute treat! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the lady serving us, who was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience all the more enjoyable.

We ordered the shawarma, fresh ceviche, and falafels, and every dish was a masterpiece—fresh, flavorful, and prepared with care. The mint lemonade was the perfect companion to the meal—so refreshing and vibrant!
