Wow this restaurant is beautiful. Their signage caught my eye and I'm so glad we decided to check it out. The restaurant is down a small driveway and is an open outdoor space so bring bug spray. The menu is pretty extensive and I feel anyone could find something to enjoy on their menu. There were so many things that my husband and I wanted to try so we ordered a few entrees at a half portion. This was such a great concept as we were so indecisive. Our server was friendly and offered that as an option which we thought was great! We ordered the Ravioli special, the seafood pasta, and the gorgonzola filet mignon. The meal started with focaccia crackers with an aoli they were so good we asked for more. Then we had a delicious vegetable soup that was complimentary. The soup was creamy and rich with little bits of parmesan. I would come back just for the soup honestly. Besides the soup my favorite item we ordered was definitely the seafood spaghetti. The spaghetti had large pieces of fish, mussels, clams, shrimp, and octopus. It was truly divine. The next item we tried was the ravioli special. It had a white sauce and although it was a little salty it still had very good flavors. The final entree was the filet mignon in a gorgonzola sauce. This was good but I would try other pastas over this dish. Again it was very tasty but a little on the salty side, partly due to the gorgonzola sauce I'm sure. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked medium, as requested. My favorite part of this dish were actually the sides it came with. We got cubed beets, carrots, and a side salad with a really good vinaigrette. I could have eaten 2 more servings of just those veggies. For drinks I ordered the recommended gin and berry cocktail and my husband got their house red wine. Both were good. I could have ordered 4 more cocktails honestly they were so good. It had fresh berries and a wasn't overly sweet. For dessert we got the platter that came with all the desserts in mini versions. I would definitely get the PanaCotta, the profiterole, the tiramisu, and the pineapple sorbet. The Pannacotta tasted like a very rich flan. The tiramisu was perfect and tasted fresh great coffee flavors. The profiterole was my favorite. Just divine. The pineapple sorbet tasted like a dole whip! My husband liked the chocolate lava cake, chocolate sorbet and the Pannacotta the most. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting this area! And I will...
Read moreThis is a shout out to all the foodies out there looking for a great restaurant in Puerto Viejo Talamanca, please visit these amazing Italian restaurant! The specialty here being not just the food but the pleasant surprise of the super gracious chef/owner of the restaurant which we weren’t expecting ! I have been all over the world and visited so many restaurants but here not only does the chef take the time out to come to your table to introduce himself but also customize the menu to your preferences! Illario made the two times we ate dinner here very pleasurable and unforgettable! A party of 6 with a 2yr old girl and a 7 yr old boy who can’t sit still at a restaurant, I was very skeptical visiting this formal Italian venue! But what Illario very cleverly did was to serve the kids to begin with before our meals arrived, so both of them were quite satisfied and sat quietly while the parents worked on their meals later! We ate at least 6 different kinds of dishes here and all were so delicious , the flavors were simple yet full of flavor and all tweaked to our tastes! To the point where he asked where we were from and when found out we were Muslim he made sure there was no pork served in any form to us , then when he found out one of us had a carrot allergy he kept carrots out of the dish and also pointed out that the soup had carrots in it ! In the end All our plates went back cleaned off to the last morsel, Satisfied and wanting to come back as soon as the meal was over , we did and experienced yet another night of terrific hosting and same attentive care for our needs! Traveling all the way from Seattle to this corner of Costa Rica , it was one of our most memorable part of the trip! Much thanks to Illario for his graciousness and treating us like a guest visiting his home. Would recommend in a heart beat and wish there were more places like his to visit , not just a business venture but a place where you felt the heart...
Read moreMy wife & I went here on our last night in Puerto Viejo for the romantic setting and great Italian so many raved about. It started out wonderful as we were the only one’s there. The spot is beautiful, secluded with great ambiance and Our server was pleasant and prompt, at first. As two large families showed up (seemed to be locals here) loud as all can be with children running wild our experience here went WAY down hill. The children were out of control running around this 5 star restaurant like it was a chunky cheese back in the states , blowing out candles surrounding the place (some at other people’s table), throwing glasses, and eating spaghetti with their hands (parents had no control over them). Our server stopped serving us and we believe he was the manager also as these people were more “important” apparently. After finishing our meals our original plan was to have desert but it took 30 minutes to get someone to even acknowledge we were still there and come back to our table. We asked for the bill, the server (not the original one we had) apologized and asked if he could get us a scoop of ice cream on the house. We kindly neglected it (gonna take more than a scoop of ice cream) and half expected the MANAGER to come back but he never gave us the time of day. Needless to say good food, so thank you cook, BUT horrible service and respect to the customer wether we’re locals or not! A bummer on our last night because everywhere else here in puerto viejo had been great. We wont go back here our next visit,...
