My extended family (7 of us) stayed at Prana Rainforest Retreat for 10 days over Christmas. We were the first people to occupy the "full" property since Mark and Jon opened up the main house as well as the guest house. We couldn't have asked for a better location for our amazing Costa Rica experience. The full house offers 2 pools, an outdoor bathtub, and plenty of sleeping space for the 7 of us. It is beautiful and, as others have mentioned, photos simply don't do the house or the guest house justice. The main house is authentically Costa Rican and has a kitchen, a table that easily seats 10 for meals or games, and relaxation space. But who wants to stay indoors when this house literally backs up to the jungle? We saw toucans, an array of butterflies, insects and reptiles, and loved watching the monkeys making their way through the trees around the property.||||Diego, concierge for the property, was simply amazing. He worked with us before we arrived to arrange ground transportation and begin recommending excursions. After we arrived, he visited us at the property to be sure everything was in order, and was available at any time on WhatsApp to troubleshoot, recommend excursions or restaurants, and make reservations for us. We never lifted a finger; Diego took care of everything for us! Carlos, chef, made 3 delicious meals. Gabby, housekeeper, was at the house every weekday to clean and even do our laundry if we requested.||||The main house is not air conditioned but all bedroom areas have A/C. We definitely did not mind lack of A/C in the main house because none of the local shops, restaurants, etc are air conditioned - we felt authentically Costa Rican! ||||Beaches are a close 5-10 minute drive and there is a LOT to do in Manuel Antonio and nearby Quepos. A car is probably a must and I would definitely recommend renting an SUV if possible since streets are narrow, steep, and twisty - but it is very easy to get around the area.||||We would have stayed an extra week if the property had not been rented the day we departed. It is beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing - we all voted it one of our...
Read moreMy husband and I traveled to Costa Rica and stayed at Prana Rainforest Retreat with my mother and 5 of our best friends. This place is almost without description it is so magnificent. Secluded and nestled right into the Manuel Antonio Rainforest yet mere minutes away from diverse and unique dining experiences, pristine beaches and a short drive from almost every kind of tour or excursion you could imagine. ||||The property slept all 8 of us in luxurious comfort. The upper level of the villa is a great room with full kitchen, an impressive live edge slab table that could probably seat 12 with no elbow fighting, a small seating nook and a giant sectional seating area. The deck off of the rear of the great room seems to extend out into the jungle where we were entertained by multiple varieties of monkeys, we got to watch Toucans nesting and even got a lightening bug show one night. ||||There is an infinity pool in the center of the 3 upper buildings which provided abundant entertainment and respite from the mid day heat. ||||The lower level took luxury to another level with two bedrooms and the primary bathroom shower opened up directly to a private pool with an outdoor lounging bed and giant concrete soaking tub that extends out over the jungle floor. There is also a 2nd, fully equipped kitchen (which we did not use but was beautiful and had amazing views of the jungle).||||Each day we had a groundskeeper and housekeeper on-site to refresh the property. Diego was our concierge and he coordinated a wedding cake for us for a vow exchange ceremony we did with our friends on-site. He also coordinated a private chef that cooked fresh, amazing meals for us on days that we selected. There is on-site, energy efficient washer and dryer so you can pack light and do your laundry there.||||I cannot say enough good things about Mark & Jon and their amazing team or this property. If you want to pamper yourself and have a one-of-a-kind experience (honeymoon or not) this is the...

My husband and I just wrapped up a five night stay at Prana Rainforest Retreat, and while we had an idea of what to expect, Jon & Mark far exceeded our highest expectations. Their beautiful home & guest house lie adjacent to the Manuel Antonio National Park. The guest house comes with all your creature comforts, is beautifully designed and decorated, offers 100% privacy, and has a floor plan that is wide open with sliding screen doors (and glass if you're using the AC) bringing you face to face with the rainforest. From our bed each morning we watched as Mono Titis, Capuchins, and Howler monkeys made their way through the canopy just outside. One could also expect to see Aricari, Grand tamaru, sloths, ocelots, and tons of other incredible wild life.
Every morning we were treated to an amazing breakfast; and while we have no food restrictions, they made every effort to make inquiries prior to each meal— those with food restrictions can rest assured Jon & Mark can accommodate any diet/lifestyle. They are also very flexible when it comes to dinner: we ate great food everywhere we went in Manuel Antonio and Jon & Mark made incredible recommendations, but the best meals we had were at Prana! They were happy to take the Yellowfin and Mahi we caught earlier in the week and prepared some amazing dishes.
Jon & Mark are pros. They take hospitality to the next level and make it clear: this is their passion. Any visit to Costa Rica is a special one— staying at the Prana Rainforest Retreat made our visit even better and brought us so much closer to the beautiful outdoors than we expected.
We are forever grateful! Pura...
