Chiquita Cabana is a Mexican restaurant in the Manuel Antonio area serving a small but solid menu of solid eats. This restaurant is part of the big El Avion restaurant complex but is significantly less busy than the flagship. My wife and I shared the nachos as an appetizer; we dug the large pile of freshly made tortilla chips which arrived topped with the ideal amount of beans, meat, cheese, and guacamole.
For our entrees, both my wife’s cochinita pibil tacos and my chicken fried burrito (essentially a chiminchanga) satisfied immensely. The pork in my wife’s tacos possessed tender, juicy meat and ample spicing; these easily were the best tacos we had during our stay in Costa Rica. My chimichanga had a ton of flavor as well and the ideal fluffy-crispy fried texture. Special mention should be made for the salsas which are available on request and add welcome spice and acid to the dishes. The food was pleasantly reminiscent of a good quality, neighborhood Tex Mex restaurant back in the US.
The restaurant possesses a good view of the ocean and an open air ambiance in keeping with its name. Service was sweet and pleasant, as the waiters checked in on us consistently and were willing to accommodate our requests. Prices were on par for the area. This restaurant is well worth a visit if in the area to satisfy a...

Read moreI brought my friends to enjoy the Manuel Antonio area and decided to dine at this restaurant — unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst service experiences I’ve ever had. After waiting around 45 minutes for our food, one of the dishes arrived incorrectly. When we politely mentioned the mistake, our server — a short, bald man with an incredibly bad attitude (I didn’t catch his name) — reacted with shocking aggression and disrespect. His behavior was so unprofessional that I genuinely thought he might become physically confrontational with my friend. As if that wasn’t enough, he later came by pushing a cart and hit one of our chairs without acknowledging or apologizing. This experience completely ruined what should have been a pleasant meal. I’ve never been treated this poorly in any restaurant. I would strongly advise others to...
