Looks can be deceiving;
Overall: 6.5/10
Location: 10/10
Situated 10m away from where you get dropped off by the ferry (people will be waiting to pick your bags which is a nice touch) . A word of warning: walk around the coastline, don't listen to Google Maps to the hotel!
There is a pier next to hotel where you can book day trips. Suggest visiting Blue lagoon and compared to other operators my suggestion would be to use concierge (whole day visiting islands but worth it). Good sized speedboat.
The diversity of people that come here is nothing I have expeerienced . All I can say it is an acclectic bunch. Be aware though there were alot of wedding parties and few stag/hen does when we were here in May. Thank god we left when we did.
They say never judge a book by its cover, and I never do.
I knew this was not a 5* but a 4*. When walking towards the hotel, I was shocked by the peeling paint on the exterior. Then you walk into 1990's revolving doors and I'm catapulted into a different hotel. A modern, clean-looking lobby overlooking the Dalmatian islands. Stunning.
We ate lunch in the lobby floor outside on arrival (good club sandwich) . With a beautiful view overlooking the islands. To be honest there are nicer hotels in the vicinity but this hotels views are far the best.
Superior Room - Ocean View: 4/10
Enter the room, which was a "Superior Room" with a beautiful view of the pool and islands, but it was tiny. The bathroom you could barely move in. It's OK for 1 person but not 2.
We were upgraded and the manager was extremely kind. To be honest, I have no idea why the other reviews slated the staff. They have all been friendly as long as you are to them.
Studio Room: 7/10
Much better, and while we barely have a sea view which we paid for, I appreciated a little more space. There were fundermental issues with the room such as the sink would take ages to empty, and the toilet was weak. The bed was comfortable, and there is a couch with a table and a balcony. Personally, I slept well for 3 nights and I barely sleep.
Service & People: 9/10
I've seen mixed reviews from people. I've always believed that how you behave dictates others' behavior! I was kind to them and they were kind to me.
Breakfast: 4/10 (Worst Part)
The variety is ok, it has most things but some things are unacceptable!!!
Cold food, i.e., pancakes and French toast, is a no-no, especially when you pay so much.
The view at breakfast is stunning but it's all style over substance and one running coffee machine in 2024 is pretty cheap for a hotel.
The world is a large place and I'm not one to travel to too many places again, but if I were to come back or recommend a place, I would still recommend this hotel but I would advise people to manage their expectations. It is a little style over substance overall. Not really worth what you what pay but which hotel is these days in a popular place.
This hotel is full of potential and I appreciate it is difficult to maintain hotels with such high traffic, but more TLC needs to be done for sure. The hotel owner is not exactly poor.
If you do stay which I think you should Just manage your expectations and enjoy the beautiful weather and be aware Hvar is not cheap its become a tourist hot spot and the prices have too at all the restaurants.
Word of warning ⚠️ the location and views make this hotel. The crowd started to become rowdy not a place for a quiet retreat. Many weddings from UK individuals happened and many stag/hen does started to arrive just before weekend.
Hope this review has been helpful drop a...
Read moreThis hotel was recommended by a friend, so we booked it and loved it. It’s about a 10-/+ min walk from the port, on mostly flat grounds. As you get closer to the hotel, there is a gradual climb but nothing strenuous. The hotel was very nice and clean, with modern décor. It’s always fully staffed, so there is someone to help at all hours of the day and night.
The hotel provides luggage transfer to and from the port, but it does NOT transfer guests, only the luggage; call or email to set this up. Honestly, if I had to drag my luggage to the hotel, it wouldn’t have been a big deal bc as mentioned, it’s mostly flat grounds.
The room we got was the Studio Suite Balcony, and although it had a balcony, there were no chairs for us to use outside. Also, the view was not great, so I guess that didn’t really matter anyway (garden view). For what we paid (a little over $600) for four days, three nights, I think we got a great deal. The room is also very spacious with a big shower, bathroom, and living space. It has an iron, safe, and a great blow-dryer.
The elevators can be confusing, but you get used to it. The main elevator takes you to most floors. For the rooms, only certain elevators take you to certain floors/rooms. They list their rooms as 4212, but they said the four doesn’t mean anything. Just pay attention to the last three digits 212, and that means you’re on the second floor.
The hotel has a sizeable gym, but unfortunately only two of the four cardio machines work. The bike’s pedal fell off and the treadmill to the very far left closer to the mirror doesn’t work. The elliptical and one of the other treadmills works fine and you likely don’t need much more bc no one is in there. There’s a large amount of space for you to jump around and do stuff like a class (my friend did her les mils classes), and there’s plenty of free weights; nothing too heavy but good enough). The only thing about the gym that I didn’t like is that it opens at 9am, this is because it shares a floor with the VIP/Penthouse guests. This kinda sucks bc I like to gym first thing in the AM, like 7-8am.
Breakfast was included in our purchase and that was a surprise. The spread was good too, offering hot and cold stations. Staff was very friendly and also very attentive.
The pool was another thing that was a turnoff. It’s FREEZING cold. No way anyone could or would swim in that water. Thankfully we were at least able to put our feet in and do a quick plunge or two.
Thanks to Nemanja and Pavle at the pool. They were both our pool boys for the time we stayed, and both were very attentive to our needs.
Overall, I liked this hotel and I thought it was a pretty good deal. I would totally...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Amfora Hvar and had a mixed experience. The hotel has several positive aspects, but also some significant drawbacks.
The rooms, although small, are well-designed and efficiently utilize the available space. I stayed in a beautiful corner room with a superior view. The modern bathrooms are a highlight, featuring up-to-date fixtures and a sleek aesthetic that added a touch of luxury to the stay.
The pool area is beautiful, offering a relaxing atmosphere with attentive service staff who ensure that guests have everything they need. Additionally, the hotel’s beach access provides a wonderful option for those looking to enjoy the Adriatic Sea. The location of the hotel is excellent, just a quick walk to Hvar town center, making it very convenient for exploring the area.
Unfortunately, the air conditioning in my room was insufficient. At times, the temperature reached an uncomfortable 28 degrees Celsius, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber. This issue also meant that I couldn’t fully appreciate the beautiful views from my corner room, as I had to keep the cumbersome curtain system closed to prevent the room from heating up further. This was particularly disappointing, as it made me wish I didn’t have so many windows overheating the room. Additionally, the curtain system was hard to use and couldn’t fully darken the room. I raised the air conditioning issue with the hotel staff on two occasions, but they did not take the issue seriously. It seemed they were aware that nothing could be done to fix it, which was frustrating.
Service at the hotel varied greatly. While the poolside and breakfast staff were very attentive and provided excellent service, the front desk staff were less accommodating. On several occasions, I had to wait despite there being three staff members behind the counter, which was frustrating.
On a positive note, the stunning views from the lobby made me appreciate the beauty of Croatia every time I walked past them.
Overall, while Amfora Hvar has many attractive features, the unresolved air conditioning issues and the front desk service detract from the overall experience. Addressing these problems would significantly improve the stay for...
