Absolutely no complaints about value. It was £34 per person, per night for all-inclusive (end of September 2023).
It is like stepping foot in a time machine and going back to what I imagine the 70s or 80s was like. Especially the entrance lobby.
Rooms are fine. Two bedrooms, with twin beds. Only got given a single duvet each as there were only two of us which was strange. Shower was one of the most powerful I've ever had in a hotel. Comfortable beds.
Food was extremely average, but again - we were paying peanuts so can't complain too much. It didn't make us ill and wasn't inedible, just generic buffet food of some mystery meat lasagnes, chips, fish etc. Desserts were mainly angel delight and stale pastries.
Drinks included in all-inclusive were okay. Beer and soft drinks are self service. The beer is the second main brand in Croatia. Avoid the spirits at all costs, the rum is like paint-stripper. You can pay a few euros for proper brand if you want.
Service varied from lovely and friendly to cold and rude. The bartenders can get very tetchy when it nears 10pm (end of all-inclusive) and start protecting glasses from as early as 9.30pm (for self-service). Then laughed at me when I ordered a cocktail (maybe not manly enough..?) and were unwelcoming when I ordered other drinks later on.
Good location in terms of the waterfront. I say waterfront instead of beach as it's just promenade, then water. Sea was crystal clear and beautiful to swim in nonetheless.
Bolt into town varied from 6EUR to 10EUR, or you can walk round to the Yacht Club and hop on a scooter (restricted...
Read moreI really liked Hotel Donat. Clean and basic just what we needed for our 4 day break. Beds comfortable and clean and some English speaking tv channels. Plenty of plug points. Shower fine.|Alcohol was good, self serve beer and wine and soft drinks, no complaints.|Food was ok, just your usual cheap all inclusive always something to eat. We did eat out once a day and the beach bar down the road was absolutely fantastic. Cheap and a great standard.|Zadar is really beautiful and peaceful, perfect for what we wanted. Water taxi is great as it is a very long walk round the marina, but it is beautiful so worth it atleast once. Enjoyed the Sea organ and the greeting of the sun dance floor.|The hotel had the pool lit up on an evening with music just nice and chill and peaceful. |Pool was clean and had enough space for us always to find a table. We didnt try the sunbeds ext as we like bieng by the pool.||Lovely if you like peaceful evenings and walks. Id 100% recommend a bargain getaway.|Airport really easy to get to and from and Ubers reliable and reasonably priced.|Prices was around 3-4 euro for a pint or a glass of wine, food was around 8-15 a main course. Coming from England we found it really really reasonable.|Weather was fantastic. All in all a great stay at Hotel Donat and Zadar, I would...
Read moreWe spent 3 days at Hotel Donat, and I have never encountered such an ungrateful staff. The check-in at the reception took about 20 minutes, and I received no explanation as to why we weren’t given any keys. I offered to go for lunch if our room wasn’t ready, but I still didn’t understand why we couldn’t check in. Half an hour later, I returned, and we were given a key. The room (212) was fine, the cleaning staff did a great job, but the condition of the hotel was desperately poor. The ceiling was cracked, and the window at the end of the hallway had been nailed shut multiple times, but the nails had come loose. Due to the storm that night, the window kept banging against our door all night. I went down to reception to report it, but I couldn’t find anyone, so I left a note on a post-it saying I was afraid the window might fall on us. However, no one fixed it while we were there, and the wind kept banging it. The service at the bar was downright rude, and the food remained the same for several days. The issue wasn’t the limited selection, but the fact that the honey, in which a large fly had drowned one day, was still out the...
