Together with our ten month old daughter me and my wife stayed at Miramare Hotel for a total of seven nights.
Among several other issues, we had to experience the following during our stay:
In the bathroom we found mold in the corners of the shower (see pictures attached) and water damages next to the ventilation (see picture attached). During our stay, our sink started leaking abruptly.
We and especially our ten month old daughter had serious problems with the heat during the nights. Traffic in front of our room was way too loud to open the windows when sleeping, the air condition in the room was positioned directly above our heads (see picture attached) when lying in bed - we had to turn it off within minutes and accept the heat.
We constantly had cigarette smoke in our room as it was located directly above the bars terrace (see picture attached). We declared we were travelling with an infant at least three times during the booking process and still got the worst room possible for any child.
During our first visit of the hotels swimming pool we witnessed numerous pigeons cleaning themselves in the pool. We would have loved to stay there more often but had a bad feeling regarding hygiene from this point.
Arriving for our first breakfast we asked for a baby chair for our daughter. The chair provided was so dirty that we asked a staff member to clean it to some extent immediately. Our daughter set in the chair this time only, as it kept being as dirty as it was on this day during all week (obviously, the chair never gets cleaned at all). Not enough, we found a large sharp loose screw in the chair (see picture attached) - large and sharp enough to cause a serious injury for any other small child using the chair.
In the morning after our second night at the hotel we considered an early check-out because my wife got ill. We asked to talk to the hotel manager to see if any mutual agreement would be possible. At the end of our conversation, which never got rude or even loud from our side, we found such an agreement was out of reach. As a consequence, we decided to stay at the hotel and make the best of the situation. Which turned out the wrong decision, as the manager suddenly stopped greeting and started ignoring us on a constant basis until the end of our stay (we faced each other several times each day without a single greeting from this moment on). While all other issues we had during our week at Miramare Hotel were on a professional basis and therefore somehow forgivable, the managers behaviour was disrespectful and insulting on a personal level we never thought would be possible in any hotel.
Having a great restaurant available was one of the most relevant factors for us to choose Miramare Hotel in Zadar. We were desperately disappointed to find out the hotels website was highly misleading as it characterises the hotels restaurant in several details - using present tense and beautiful pictures while missing any note to the fact that there - at this point - was no restaurant at all.
Neither during our stay nor at our check-out any staff member of the hotel asked for feedback or if we would have any suggestions to share - even though we actually told the hotels owner we faced several problems, no one checked.
But, finally, the most insulting part came at the end: At home, we wrote an extensive email on what we had experienced, documented our issues with photos and videos made with our mobile phone during our stay and asked for an appropriate refund. We did this - which is important for us to emphasise - in a polite and factual way. What did the hotel do? They wrote, that they "cannot clearly determine from your photos whether it is our hotel" (literal quote) which is displayed and therefore are unable to return any money. They called us liars!
Those who run Miramare Hotel will surely be able to determine whether the pictures attached to my review are authentic or not. And will be ashamed for how we and our baby daughter were treated by some of their staff during and...

Read moreWow. This hotel is amazing. We are just back from a 3 night stay and so wish it had been longer.
Firstly all staff are so polite, kind and just genuinely nice. The owner was very hands on and always went out his way to speak and talk to us.
We loved the pool area and the guys and girls that served us were great. Reception staff were also spot on.
The rooms are so clean (the maids were fantastic). We had a sea view room with balcony and another that looked on to the pool.
Food - the breakfast in the morning was delicious. Lovely fruit spread, breads, meats, salad etc and you could also order off the menu. Very high standards and hard to beat the breakfast as it was really tasty.
Kolonada restaurant food was so yummy. We had the burgers. It was honestly the best we have had. The food is all so fresh and local ingredients.
This hotel is spotless, loved the location and staff are the best.
Perfect location - as 2 min walk to Kolovare beach.
In to the old town it was a 15 minute walk.
We cannot wait to return and if I still had holidays left I would come back this year.
Loved Zadar and loved this hotel.
Thanks again.
