We have just returned from a 10 night stay during October (24). The holiday was excellent and I would summarise the St George as being a selection of high points with some mediocre issues.
Rooms We had an inland facing twin room and it was fine. Nicely decorated, a small balcony with 2 chairs. The room was absolutely fine without being exceptional. The only downside being really poor water-pressure in the shower.
Pools/Spa 2 great outdoor pools. The main pool with a swim-up bar. The star of the show here was Olympia who served at the swim-up bar. She was fantastic, a great sense of humour and she put up with a lot from some of the more obnoxious guests. The top pool was quieter and smaller but really nice. Another bar, not swim-up and again a great staff member, I think her name was Anesha, always greeted us so warmly.
Finally there was a small indoor pool in the spa area which we used once. This was quiet and quite cold, it was excellent after using the Sauna and Steam room. We didn't use the hydrotherapy pool as this was an added extra.
The gym was ok, could have done with a few more free-weights and opening earlier than 08:00.
The sunbed allocation was interesting. On the first day you go to a stall, near the pool bar. They offer you a choice of vacant sunbeds that are yours for the holiday, unless you request to change them. It's nice knowing you have those beds and you don't have to get up early to lay down a towel. We started down by the sea, on the grass but put our name down on a waiting list for poolside, which we got after a couple of days as other guests leave.
Restaurants Here is where we had a really mixed experience. There are 2 buffet restaurants, one serves breakfast and dinner, the other is only used for lunch. In the breakfast/dinner restaurant there is just not enough variety over the days. It's the same stuff every day. At breakfast the only difference I noticed was some days they swapped the almonds for walnuts. Everything else was the same. The dinner had slightly more variety but not much. The quality of the food was probably 3 out of 5 at best in this restaurant. The other problem was there were just too many people in there at the same time. We always got a table but often it was too crowded and long queues for food items. We also were often waiting for plates, bowls, mugs because they couldn't turn them around quick enough.
The lunchtime buffet was much better, the quality seemed higher and there was more variety. I think it would be much better if they opened the second restaurant at breakfast as well, it would have been a much better experience to be not so crowded and stressed.
There are 4 ala carte restaurants that you can visit once per week with a reservation. The Italian is outdoors in the pool bar area, literally just re-purposing the plastic chairs and tables around the pool bar, so it's nothing fancy, but the food was excellent here. We visited twice and everyone in our party had wonderful meals. The staff were lovely as well. Maria (who also popped up in other places) was so friendly and kind, also an older gentleman, I think his name was Stanislav (or similar) was also so kind.
Next to the Italian, outdoors was the Greek restaurant. We ate here once and found the food to be OK.
The Asian restaurant was indoors, within the main buffet room set off to the side. We ate here twice and again the food was fantastic with Indian, Chinese and Japanese options, including some lovely sushi.
The American diner was inside, off the main lobby. We ate here once and thought the food was just ok.
Because we could only eat 1 per week in each ala carte, we opted to go out and pay for a meal in Paphos one night, rather than eat the same buffet food again.
There is also a coffee/snack/bar open early till late which was nice. 2 outdoor snack/bar areas during the day (1 becomes the italian/greek kitchen in the evening). A fantastic cocktail bar and a wine bar we never tried.
We really enjoyed the holiday overall but there are a lot of improvements that could be made...
Read moreMy booking here was a last minute thing so any criticisms is based upon expectations rather than pre-existing knowledge. I gave it 3* because of what let it down rather than criticising every price of bitty gritty n nook n cranny. As an all inclusive I expected totally all inclusive but unfortunately it isn't. It was advertised and sold to me as all inclusive but upon arrival to the hotel I was laden with 2 toddler grandchildren, and my wife and x4 suitcases. We were dropped off at the top of the hotel drive at around 00:40am. Upon asking for help to transport 2 sleeping kiddies, hand luggage, and x 4 suitcases the rep said I don't think this hotel that level of service n promptly buggered off back on the coach n drove off. After managing to get to reception with zero refreshments there wasn't anyone on reception despite loudly calling, whistling and knocking on the reception top. Someone eventually did arrive. After signing all the paperwork he pointed us in the direction of our accommodation which was again a trek and negotiation of a small lift and a couple of hotel blocks. Due to the size of lift I had to make 2 trips so not a happy bunny by any imagination. The 1st thing on my mind was something cool to drink n feet up for 2 minutes. Oops that was expecting too much. 2 adults n 2 toddlers now sweating n thirsty there was 1x500ml bottle of water n nothing else. No milk, tea bags, coffee in fact zero anything. So back to reception to highlight the issue. The chap explained all the bars were closed n all he could do was try n find something to quench the thirst. He managed 2 t bags n a small urn of milk. Unlucky kids it was either a cup of T or nothing. Apparently all inclusive in this hotel doesn't mean room refreshments. Another expectation the next day was zero wifi. So off to reception again to be told it costs €15 per person per week. I sarcastically said I only want it for me n my partner and grabkids tablets for kids youtube n amazon movies n not 1 months subscription for the whole hotel. So guess I was going to be using data instead n kids will have to have nothing because €120 for wifi for the duration is an expectation too far. Next is the bar, all drinks r served 8n cost saving ultra thin plastic cups which when gripped easily overflow which is why with a round of drinks getting from the bar to your bed lounger you'll be given an empty bulk ice cream container to carry them. I think serving trays are exclusive for the frisby comps on the beach. Keeping on theme of the pool bar, forget it if u want to drink past midnight because it closes. So typically you'll get 2 r 3 extra on the last round? Forget that too because where you're sitting the lights will be turned off too cos the barman has finished his shift n locked up n gone home so don't expect to have a relaxing drink with your family n friends etc because not only will you be not allowed too but there w9n't be anything to refresh you. Now as for the positives, the hotel has a lot going for it. The food is very good n you can see and taste the passion in the cooking. Each meals offers you as well as basic staple diet a themed choice of foods. A good example of this is roast beef sliced from the joint, roast pork n lamb with accompanying typical Sunday roast supplement. Fish meals r excellent too, as well as pasta n rice, tbh I don't think I had any issue. Everything is self service which includes pouring your own soft drinks n wines and beer. The hotel location is also excellent with lawned sunlounges with the most excellent views to toward the beach and seascape as well as around the pool. The pools do have a life guard between certain times of the day which I think is 10am till 18:00. The sleeping accommodation is basic but they are very comfortable and clean and offer plenty of luggage space. All in all, if the hotel could manage to get over the austere situations of offering a fully satisfactory all inclusive offerings I'm sure the hotel would have fabulous reoccurring recommendations which it's staff...
Read moreLet me start with something that wasn’t mentioned in any hotel description but significantly influenced our overall experience: the vast majority of guests are between 60 and 80 years old. While the hotel advertises itself as “adults only”, which could suggest a more lively or varied atmosphere, the reality turned out to be very different. Evenings are extremely calm, the entertainment is tailored to seniors, and any form of nightlife – even in a soft version – is extremely limited. Younger guests we met were just as surprised as we were. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a glass of champagne. Rooms were very clean, recently renovated, well soundproofed, with comfortable beds and modern finishes. However, one major downside was the unbearable temperature in the hallways – no air conditioning despite 42°C and high humidity. Walking from the room to the lobby felt like walking through a sauna. Breakfasts were unfortunately the same every single day – solid, but without any variety. Lunches were definitely the best meals of the day – great selection, high-quality dishes (fish, seafood), and excellent beer and wine. Dinners were okay, but not particularly impressive. Desserts – very good. Snacks between meals were a plus: pitas, wraps, pizza, ice cream (which melted instantly due to the extreme heat). À la carte Restaurants · Asian – the best of the four, with great service and delicious food. · Italian – decent and pleasant. · Greek – quite average. After 8:30 PM, several items on the menu were already unavailable.· American – the weakest part of the entire stay. The steak was overcooked, the vegetables mushy, and the sauce tasted like diluted tomato paste. To top it off, the waiter didn’t serve drinks – we had to get them ourselves from the bar. This level of service is not acceptable for a 4-star hotel. Most of the staff were very helpful, friend, and professional – special thanks to the reception team and the beach bar crew. Unfortunately, there were exceptions. Ms. Valeria from the main bar (upstairs) was rude and selectively served guests – she would ignore the line and pick whoever she wanted to serve. Twice, we waited over 30 minutes until the second bartender returned. When she finally had to serve our group, she did it with visible displeasure, rolling her eyes. Similarly, the waiter from the American restaurant – both of them stood out negatively and undermined the otherwise fantastic team. The pools were too warm – the water temperature was close to that of the air, making it impossible to cool down. The lack of circulation made swimming more exhausting than relaxing. The beach was unfortunately disappointing. It’s artificial and rocky, with a very difficult entrance into the sea – water shoes are a must. Sunbeds – the system of allocating spots could be improved. We were assigned sunbeds in the middle of the sunbed zone, and it took us five days to get ones by the pool. When those finally became available, it was already near the end of our stay, so we gave up our turn to others. Additionally, watch out for red ants on the lawns – their bites are painful and could trigger allergic reactions for those with sensitive skin. Drinks were made with high-quality alcohol, well-balanced, strong, and tasty – the beach bar deserves special praise. Housekeeping did an excellent job – rooms were cleaned daily, towels replenished regularly, and everything kept spotless. Overall, we are satisfied with our stay. However, if we had known in advance that the majority of guests are older, the entertainment is minimal, and the pool water is uncomfortably warm, we’re not sure we would have booked this hotel. We were a group of friends aged between 25 and 31 – not looking for wild parties or clubbing, but hoping for some light evening entertainment to break up the days. Unfortunately, due to the age of the guests, the hotel probably couldn’t offer more, as there simply wasn’t a crowd willing to engage. That said, when we’re around 60 ourselves – we’ll...
