Avoid if you can ! Spent five days at the Oscar Resort Hotel and ... never again. I had booked directly on their website. We arrived around 1am and were greated by somebody at reception without a hello or a smile. He told me he had no record of our booking... showed him the email which I then had for some reason screenshot and send through whatsapp. He kept disappearing in a back office without any explanation. He came back having found the reservation in their system for September 2018 when my email clearly stated June 18. This took around an hour which at 1am is not a great start. We had a family room by the pool, very dark and very smelly of old. In the morning we realised that the bathroom was infested with ants, top of the counter, products, toothbrushes etc. Housekeeping spoke to English and I finally spoke to somebody who said we would be upgraded to a better room. When shoed the room, it was next door and was exactly the same as before except with a vomit smell. The next one had a damp and smoking smell. It took four or five attempts and we were put in a smaller room in BlockA, far from the pool. The room was ok but still very dirty and the bathroom very old. The website pictures do not match the reality at all. Aircon did not work and we had to call a technician around three times before it got properly fixed. There are three swimming pools who are all very dirty and safety hazards with broken bits all around and just generally unhygienic. The sand at the beach is covered in cigarette butts so forget it if you go with small children who want to make sand castle. It goes beyond somebody having just smoked a cigarette, it is litterrallu covered and nobody clearly cleaned it in months. Staff at reception was extremely rude and made you generally feel unwelcome. Food at breakfast is not great and even worse at dinner. Best was still to come at checkout... When we had arrived, I had told three different people that the minibar in the first room looked like it hadn't been refilled and therefore I should not be charged. Of course, I was charged at checkout which took another 20 minutes of discussion to change. I had left a £20 note at reception on arrival as caution to get four towel cards. Those £20 had been taken from a cashpoint in gatwick airport before we had left. I was returned £20 at the end of our stay and when I used it back in England, was told that it was a fake so the hotel staff clearly switched it... Disgusting behaviour. And let's not even talk about the complete rudeness of their security guard overlooking the car park who just bark at you in Turkish knowing full well you do not understand. This is not a four stars at all, might have been in the 1950s but not today. At best a 2 or 3* but not on European standards. It is also in the middle of a slum. We normally stay at the Colony Hotel, I thought we would try for the slides and pools,...
Read moreJust finished my vacation at the Oscar resort in Northern Cyprus. It was an amazing stay to say the least. The pools were clean, the room was good and the view was beautiful!! The layout was a bit complex, but everyone who worked there was happy to help. The food tasted good, but a tiny bit repetitive. I didn't have an issue with it, but I can imagine someone who is an adventurous eater would. They have a huge salad bar at dinner time and a smaller one at lunch time. If you need to go to the city center, there is a 'train' that takes you there three times a day except on a Sunday. The surrounding area was great. There are restaurants, bars, supermarkets and stores you can walk to. It's about an 8 minute walk. I really liked it here and would come back in the future. I do want to give a special thank you to some of the staff as they were incredibly nice and helpful. They also made our stay way better.
Adil from the bar was an amazingly kind man. Every time we walked passed, he waved at us. We had fun talks with him and he is really funny as well! He is overall a great bartender
The housekeeper Ammy was also extremely kind. She did a very thorough job when she cleaned our room. We would see her every morning working hard, but she always had a spare moment to wish us a good morning. Such a wonderful woman :)
Ismail is a server at the restaurant and he was super professional. He took his job seriously and helped us any time we needed something. When we accidentally got the wrong order, he apologized on behalf of the other server and brought us the right drink. We didn't even say anything! He just looked at our glass and knew. We also saw that he was very kind to the server that made the mistake when he corrected him.
Arsal is also one of the servers at the restaurant. He was extremely helpful. He was always quick to take our drink order. If there was a table that needed cleaning so we could sit, he would do it immediately. He would greet us with a smile and you could see the kindness in his face. A person with great work ethic!
Hamadali was THE KINDEST person I have ever met in any hotel I have ever been to. He always gave us a big smile and greeted us whenever he saw us. He was easy to talk to. Like we were talking to a long time friend. He was friendly to everyone but extra kind to the small children in the restaurant. An overall hard worker deserving of praise.
Our stay was amazing and everyone who worked there was amazing as well. 10/10 would...
Read moreFor the price this place is good value. It's a Turkish hotel, breakfast is definitely Turkish so takes a bit of creativity to pull a plate together for an Australian. The hotel is a little tired and run down but has plenty of fun stuff to do for kids with the water slides, playground, birds and wave pool.
The food at the hotel isn't great but it's less than a 10min walk around to Bella Marina which has amazing food, scenery and play area for kids. We went there for dinner both nights of our stay and loved it.
The spa/plunge pools in the haram were out of service but they still had kind of expensive massages available.
The casino downstairs is a weird box filled with smoke, a few slot machines and a couple of tables going. Drinks are free while you're playing which is good... When chipping in I was told I had to play for at least an hour before I could exchange my chips for cash, very strange rule i've never been given anywhere before. The cashiers and table hosts made the casino feel like a mafia operation or something. If you have a problem with smoking, you're not going to have a good time at the casino.
The waterslides are great fun, there are two, a twisty blue one and a white bumpy ramp type one that's fast enough for thrill-seekers to get a bit of a rush.
The big pool is great and the food and drink service at the pool works well. Being able to order from in the pool is always a plus. The kids pool is about 70cm deep and was great for our 2yr old to play in without floaties on because she could stand. The umbrella water feature in the kids pool wasn't working while we were there, playing to the run down feel of the hotel but you can definitely have a good time. Food and drinks are inexpensive for resort standards 20TL for 500ml Efes beers, €5 for spaghetti Bolognese, €2.5 for hot chips.
Beds and rooms were okay but nothing to write home about, air-conditioning worked well and kept the rooms cool. Seaview rooms have a nice view of the beach, slides and hotel.
If you find a good deal on one of the aggregator sites, you'll get rooms here pretty cheap - it's good value for what...
