Here is our review after staying here for a week in May 2019. It was a disappointing stay because we knew the Frixos had been fully refurbished, or so we thought, and we were looking forward to staying there to meet our friends, having lived in Cyprus for many years previously. One of the big things that upset us was the so-called hotel policy. Like other places that want to make extra profits from parents, this hotel is in that group purely to make extra profits. They state if your child is aged over 13 then they are classed as an adult and extra charges will apply as the hotel have extra expenses. A child is a child legally until they are 16 years of age but not with some of these establishments who want to make extra money in any way they can get away with it. Trying to argue the point during the stay, not once did the manager show his face. They were adamant the charge had to be paid and indeed on checkout, even knowing we had 7 bad nights sleep they did not offer to wavier the charges. We paid and left putting that experience down to a lesson in life, and how these hotels treat their guests, perhaps they do not need repeat business in Cyprus. They have no extra costs, we used the same room, the same bed, and the same bedding/towels so where are the extra costs to them? They even made money because only once did 2 of us try the breakfast once, (more about that later) our daughter never had any breakfast at all so they saved the expenses there. The check in was very good, the girl was very friendly and helpful and told us we had a nice room. The room was nice, clean and had a pool view. Some of the staff we found very pleasant, notably not Cypriot. The first night, the air-con unit was rattling on and off all night, only being able to control this from the wall unit in the kitchen, where by the way, the temperature stat seems to be for it to work correctly but we don't see how this stat can monitor the temp of the bedroom. Not wanting to disturb our daughter who was sleeping in the lounge/kitchen, we did not switch the air-con off thinking in might get better. It didn't We told reception about it and they sent a technician who informed us that it's a central aircon unit for the entire hotel and during the night it will always come on, even if switched off, to clean the system. That is not a good idea to have this happen at night when people are trying to sleep. He gave us a remote control to use but we still could not turn the unit off when it was in a clean cycle. Very disturbed sleep for 5 nights. The management offered us another room for the last 2 nights outside the hotel in the next block above the supermarket. We accepted, it thinking this might be better but it turned out that both aircon units in that apartment were noisy, the flaps did not work properly but at least we could turn them off to stop the noise. However the nights were uncomfortable when the heat was in the high 30's during the day. The shower in this room is not a rain shower and quite poor water pressure. We decided just to put up with it knowing we were leaving in a couple of days. The beds are quite hard & uncomfortable in the two rooms we used, extra pillows were provided on request The breakfast; its a buffet style with some tepid cooked food in silver tureens. No fresh orange just orange or lemon squash. The bacon was sat in what looked like water, similar the cocktail sausages, not very appetising at all. The other food was open to the elements, some under a glass cover but open at the front allowing flies access. Flies were seen on the food in there and on the buffet food, therefore breakfasts were abandoned and take in Larnaca town. AN EXTRA cost to us whilst the hotel saved money!
We think the management could have done better in the circumstances but they were not really interested just wanted the extra...
Read moreThe apartments are well furnished throughout and provide a calming ambience powerpoints downstairs for charging phones and laptops etc. Showers and bathrooms well decorated, soaps and shower gels provided and topped up regularly. Cleaners do an amazing job of your rooms on a daily basis. Our family consists of two small children and it was their first holiday and you can imagine the excitement and we always came back to a clean and tidy room, cutlery and basic glasses provided.||||Literally next door a huge shop provided floats, arm bands and loungers all of good quality and reasonable priced, so if you are like us and concerned for the children around water you don't need to pack as you can buy locally. If my partners only complaint was the quality of the hair dryer was not the same as having her own from home. ||||Staff are welcoming and provide a great service. At the time of writing, food isn't provided but the cocktails are refreshing and the fridge in the room can hold basics for breakfast the room could benefit from a toaster, a small supermarket is well positioned a few minutes away, but Jumbos is a little way down the road. The taxi to Finikoundes is a consistant 15 euros, the closest place to buy a cooked breakfast is a 5 minute stroll out of the back of the hotel to the beach. The sand is quite dark but the sea stays level for a great distance if swimming isn't your thing you can ||||A 10 minute stroll out of the front of the hotel youll find a cafe serving english breakfasts. They have a hose pipe to shower off the sand near the pool, toilets, showers and changing rooms located at the side of the building near the pool, very handy for those who flights are way after check out.||||During the evening you'll find many places to eat depending on your resilence to the heat, walking can be a chore but in both directions you'll find restaurants to satisfy most palates and pockets too.||||It isn't necessary but budget for taxi's and the fun fare and arcades at Fini and also if possible hire a car as your visit to Cyprus will be entirely different if you have a vehicle to use so much to...
Read moreWe did not stay at this hotel but had an apartment in the neighbouring building. The owner used to have an arrangement with the management at Frixos about using their pool area. Fair enough since to go to the beach people living at Frixos have to trespass through private property that belongs to our apartments. This happens every day, but it seems we have to talk with the owners to enforce this ban. Because Frixo would not honour the agreement regarding the pool area any longer.
Its not a terrible thing since our apartment had a much larger pool right next to the beach. Only reason we wanted to use their area was that they had a small playground and our daughter wanted to use it briefly.
The "owner" as he called himself (I since found out he is the general manager, but he had no trouble telling me this lie to my face) told me that I could not even buy access to the pool area because of "safety and hygienic regulations" I informed him we were not any more dirty than his guests and he since changed the story to "insurance would not cover".
I have travelled all over the world and used amenities from other hotels by paying them without issue. This guy just wanted an empty hotel. Guess its easier on him.
So... I ask him if we can buy breakfast at the hotel then. He appeared to think about this for a moment and subsequently told me that "we dont do that". Why.. Because of regulations. So the"owner" cant sell us access because of regulations.. Yeah BS like I never heard before.
Forget this place. If someone tells you they cant offer you good service because of "regulations" you know they are just not service minded.
Besides the place is overpriced. We looked at it before we made our current reservation. We got a 100 SQM appartment with a real kitchen and two balconies for 60% of the cost of a "room" at Frixos. Better value out there for sure and you wont have to contend with all their "regulations" that keep tourists out of...
