If I was writing a review for the first time I visited here I would have given 5*. Not sure if it was pure luck or I caught masalas on a good day. I ordered lamb tikka masala, my wife ordered chicken tikka masala. Really tasty and better than some of the curries I’ve had from the UK.
Sadly I’ve been probably 4 or 5 more times since and there is just absolutely no consistency at all. When I’ve ordered the same curry or even tried my wife’s curry they just taste completely different every time and not in a good way. Past two curries I had literally just tasted like tomato. So either a case of adding way too much tomato purée, just not cooking the raw flavour out properly or just lack of other flavours to balance it out.
Last time we ate here the bhajis weren’t tasty and again tasted absolutely nothing like the ones we tried the first time I ate here.
I make my own curries at home British Indian restaurant style so I sort of have an idea of what some of the curries should taste like but it just seems a disappointment which ever curry I choose.
Service is alright up until the point of when you’ve been given your food. After the point no one really bothers with you. Your loss at the end of the day, I’ll just be ordering less drinks since I’m sat there for half an hour with an empty glass wanting another one.
I’ll probably come back because not many places are open during the winter, hope that I’ll come across another good curry here but unlikely so. Indian food standard is not even close to that of what I’m used to but then again that’s a common theme across food in...
Read moreOverpriced, average to below average sized portions with basic choice available yet nothing uniquely authentic that you would find in a proper restaurant, same choice as any Indian take away shop and very “whitewashed” curries that lack flavour.
Tourist trap - zero locals and only tourists with a menu targeting tourists. Entree and dessert are not really Indian. Staff had no idea about the food itself when asking questions about it. Very little knowledge about Indian cuisine.
The food: Curry is sweet, so order something beyond Medium as even Medium has almost no spice to it at all. The portions are small, so be aware. We ordered Lassi, it was honestly the worst Lassi I’ve tried, ever. They also charged euro 5.50 for it which is a joke. Price does not match the value.
Service: Staff are very nervous and unprofessional. A lot of them seem to be unexperienced. Our food landed on the wrong table. Young guy made it obvious he doesn’t want to be there working. However elderly workers seemed to have the hang of it. No Indian workers to give some authenticity. Pushed to give tips which we did give.
Atmosphere: Beautiful decorations, nice layout. Table was a bit small to the staff struggled with it. Cant fault the place itself.
Unfortunately most people who come here have little experience with Indian cuisine, or I don’t understand how it could have such high ratings. Perhaps Indian cuisine in Cyprus is just in general terribly inauthentic and so this place gets...
Read moreI do not usually write restaurant reviews straight away, but I am quite disappointed with my evening experience tonight at Masalas Indian Restaurant in Larnaca.
Now, where do I start.....
The owner Nicos is a gentleman and delivered good hospitality and the gentleman which served our food, displayed good manners.
However, the service provided by other staff members lacks customer service and good communication skills.
Staff members do not even smile, and I have a young child and not even one staff member came over to our table to ask if everything was ok, and how our meal was.
We waited so long to be served, and the hospitality is by far the worst I have come across in Larnaca.
Now, the food was lovely and had an authentic taste to it. But, when you are paying central london prices for Indian food, especially in Cyprus. You would expect outstanding customer service.
My background is in customer service, so I appreciate customer hospitality. My word of advice to the establishment, improve your customer service and you will retain customers.
The food is lovely, and if all staff members were like Nicos, the business would thrive.
But for me, I require good customer service.
Also, get your own taxi, because the local taxis will rip a hole in your pocket. 5 minute drive down the road cost...
