The Palm Beach Hotel was once a luxurious place to stay with excellent service, I fear those days are long gone, but the premium prices remain!!!
There are many great things about this hotel, but ultimately they are all let down by the attitude, arrogance and behavior of the staff.
When dealing with the staff here, I constantly felt like I was having aggressive negotiations rather than diplomatic conversations. One expample is when I asked the staff if I could upgrade to a sea view. An appropriate response would have been "That's no problem at all sir, there is a premium but let me just work out how much that would be for you" BUT instead, the actual response was "You must pay us more money for this". OK relax and learn some manners. A further example is the language used when I requested a late checkout. An appropriate response would have been "yes sir, we can arrange that for a fee if a room is available" BUT instead, they decided to go with "this is not included and you must pay us more and we have no guarantee". Relax, take a step back and remember where the money for your wages comes from!!
The bar staff seemed extremely judgemental and certainly enjoyed rolling their eyes, telling you to go to another bar, or just looking fed up and very bored.
In short, five star prices, for a four star product, with a two star service (after the initial confrontations with the staff, you will get your item, so I can't say one star).
A note to the managers: Please remember that the staff you employ and pay, all represent you. I cannot base my experience on anything other than the service I received from them, and regardless of the extravagant prices, this is unacceptable at any level!!
Final staff note, don't bother learning the language at all! Though I'm fluent in Greek, whenever I spoke to the staff in their native language, they quite enjoyed disrespecting me by answering in English.. poorly.. Everytime!!
OK so if you don't mind being treated like trash, and you quite enjoy confrontation, then this might be the place for you because other than that, beach location, comfortable rooms and spa facilities are pretty good here.
Though I did not once eat here in the evening, I did have breakfast each day of my stay and the selection of food and juices were adequate and what you'd expect (from a budget hotel buffet). One nice touch was the omelette station, which was great for anyone wanting to have a hot breakfast.
The bar food may be expensive but it's pretty good food, and for the location, I'd say the offering is adequately priced.
If you don't like cats, I'd probably avoid this place. I love cats and genuinely enjoyed their company as I spent time by the pool. There is even a feeding station for them which is a great touch for animal lovers.
I will mention that the rooms have been recently renovated, and my sea view room had a glass bathroom wall, which meant I could stare at the ocean whilst taking a shower. Great touch and nice rooms.
In the past this was a great place to stay and I've stayed here many times over the years. I don't think I'll be staying here again, as I do quite enjoy good service and it's long gone from this place. Also, being treated with respect is a fair thing to ask as a paying customer and I did not get that here at all.
With so much high quality competition opening in Larnaca, I'd seriously suggest this hotel put forward a massive staff training regime, and perhaps ask their staff to go to other hotels and learn how to speak to people with respect.
Renovation will not make customers return, treating customers with...
Read moreThe Hotel is located at a very good location . However the staff is highly non professional, non courteous, to be precise Rude incase if you confront them for behaving and talking politely . The following incident is narrated for convenience of Public to stay vigilant to manage any unforeseen incident. We booked in via tourist package ETS (Turkiye) for three days with Breakfast and dinner as part of package and paid the amount . However soon at arrival we observed that the Hotel -management at different hierarchy have very limited communication with each other specially reception, security and dining-hall. Whereby there is no security staff deputed to manage the secure entry of guests . The Air conditioning has a lot noise . The balcony on 2nd floor is not available The worst part is that the booked-in(residents) guests information is not passed on to Dinning hall for Dinner and breakfast . This causes al lot of interrogation between guests and Dining-hall staff resulting into hot-arguments exchange.
In our case during dinner various staff-members came to inquire about our whereabouts ( a stance similar to a mafia) and doubted our integrity . We politely told them that kindly consult reception or ask other members too rather than just asking me (Coz it was something very unusual for us travelling from Turkiye) After we caution the dining-hall staff not to doubt peoples’ integrity, rather , have a fair organized system to know “who your guest are” as per total quality management Protocols . There on the manger and then the GM came to interrogate us and after a exchange of info we requested them to approached Reception to get confirmation if we are genuine- checked In customers or not .
Rather than resolving the matter via internal communication between them , they happily sent a bill of 600 Lira via a staff and insisted on paying .
We off course condemn this very action and told them that as per part of international Protocols of Dinner , where by a seated guest is to allow completing a dinner before asking him to either pay or leave . There On the GM and other approached us pressurizing us to leave the hall , by narrating that we are kind of creating trouble for them. We asked them to kindly meet at reception and resolve the facts and figures . How ever to our surprise the starting calling Police and threatens us that they know the President of Kibris( Bla Bla) . We with confidence asked them to rather pay focus on customer satisfaction rather than bulldozing the way like autocratic style of Management ( mafia style ) . However the GM intervened and started raiding voice to leave their Hotel else they will call Police . We confronted and informed them that pay our 2 days Money , which they denied .
We approached the Embassy of Turkiye and ETS-Agent to resolve .
The matter is a classical example of nonprofessional attitude , non-courteous staff with autocratic-style of management with zero customer focus against the Norms of TQM
and starting asking about our room number and...
Read moreNewly renovated hotel complex with bungalows. Although the complex is newly renovated it is not up to scratch wanting to be upper class. It demands people to come in appropriate clothing and pay quiet high prices, the furniture in the restaurant is plastic and wobbly. The personal is super friendly but not very efficient. We had to comply 5 times about cat poo next to the pool area before it was removed.
There are 5 different pools and a private beach area. The personal at the pool is incredibly efficient. They are always tidying and helping. On October there does not seem to be much going on and you can get a bed any time. The plastic sun chairs are tired though and some are just broken. On the other hand you can get as many towels you want and drinks are brought to the beach by the waiters.
Wi-Fi is free in the lobby and 24€ per week on the room. It is fast enough to stream music but Netflix seems to be blocked.
Food is ok. Breakfast was a big buffet with many options from British to European and the local varieties with fruits and salads. The fruits were not the most ripe ones but decent. The rest was nothing extra ordinary.
Lunch at the sea side restaurant is ala card and good. Don't order the Asian platter, the sauces were just ketchup and sour cream, a new way of doing sweet and sour ;) the Cyprus platter was very nice though! The calamari were also very nice and seemed to be done freshly.
Dinner was standard buffet food. They try to bring in variations but it just is not the kind of food I would want on holidays. I prefer to go to a local restaurant and pay a little more. The wine selection is limited and not really worth mentioning.
For kids there was a kids club every day with a very energetic young lady who did a great job. The playground with a small water slide was an absolute hit and we spent many hours there. There were sun beds in that area for parents.
The beach itself was small but nice. Very flat sand with about 100 meters to where the drop off was. Waves were very little but enough to have fun. Snorkeling was interesting thanks to the artificial riff. Of course you cannot expect exotic fish but enough to entertain my diver heart for some time without going to far from the family. The beach was sand with rock. Very densely packed so not ideal for building sand castles but still offering possibilities for...
