The welcome was great and I had an issue with a piece of medical equipment, the receptionist helped me and did have a real desire to resolve my issue - which was great! George the Bar manager, Eleanor the restaurant manager are all faces that make you feel like home...|Until...|You have a beautiful dinning room, I appreciate the Cypriot night with the music definitely serve this in the Breakfast room. But everything else should be in the "beautiful" dinning room for dinner - you sell this as part of the "package" a 10 night stay we had dinner in the Breakfast area 6 times and this isn't as grand or has the atmosphere - felt more like a staff canteen at work experience.|Breakfast was served at a cool temperature 2 mornings on the press, but omelettes were delicious as always. The manager stands there almost watching everything, which is fine to an extent. But when lifting lids to check stock / heat etc - you have staff that should be doing this and not yourself? This also made me feel uneasy on an a occasion, not on my own plate but looking and almost judgement expressions - this could be seen as rude. |The staff were attentive and always willing to help, and the food choice was on par (maybe some more Gluten free / Lactose free options, 4 nights in was really limited. The chef did try and come to my aid a few nights, but even he admitted it was limited) we went elsewhere for 2 days, I did struggle on some nights to eat.||Rooms! Where do I start, these are looking dated / tired. Furniture tired / chipped / scratched holes in the bed sheets, bathroom floor uneven with previous repairs and painful on feet. Bath flexing where repetitive standing area - feels uneven and insafe! If you're using old towels, ensure they colour match to show a "standard of quality" different made the bathroom look mismatched. These balcony could do with a spruce and some new furniture that doesn't look from a charity shop! We had a family room with what can be described as a rather hard camp bed for a 13 year old. This had a sleeping bag quilt thrown on with the wording A.Great written down it??? He looked like something from the scouts and not a plush hotel! These rooms need an upgrade and not with some chap walking around dabbing on more paint - they need attention. The grounds look spot on, but jet washing a roof at 7.30am in the morning, glad it wasn't outside my balcony! It was loud enough outside mine and I was on the 2nd floor. My mum and dad's room had an Aircon unit that can only be described as a thundering / vibrating asset! They turned it off to get relief not because it was relief! ||When we arrived we identified where we wanted to go around the pool, no sunbeds were available. But we were advised, where we wanted to be the current users were departing the following day - they would be available after 4pm (the day of their departure, which was fine) |So we assumed the same, we would have the our allocated sunbeds until 4pm the day of our departure. On the day of our departure, we were left with nothing? Ours had been allocated already to someone else? So works for some and not for others?| |Main pool area has a hole in the floor - near the steps! I know this as stood in this hole with my heel with exposed wires sticking in my foot. (I've also had a weeks worth of antibiotics when home, as I obtained an infection where the wires impaled my foot?) I was told by the pool attendant "yes maintenance aware" if a child stood in this, this would have been accident waiting to happen! Exposed wires, really??? With a "4 star" hotel...||WHY, are also baby swimming nappies not required mandatory? We had a child soil themselves in the indoor pool whilst we were there!! This then made the pool out of action - surely this is for hygiene reasons too, that this is a minimum requirement? |The pool was set on a clean, the amount of excrement out of the child need a pool drain - it was disgusting!||Finally the night entertainment - where do I start... Ear plugs should be a minimum requirement, they were as a typical school report would advise "could do better"|The sound, the choice and the singers! If this could be likened to a mating call of a Yak, I'm sure it would come close to the dreadful noise that was the lady singers. They know how to clear an area - we had to stay as we unfortunately ordered drinks before the first song! Looked the part until they opened their mouths. Note to manager, instead of lifting lids. Go and listen to your "all stars" this can only be likened to ordering a band off Temu!! Free drinks should be given to anyone who stays the set. Unfortunately i cant upload videos, but i have a feeling this would put alot off. The day time activities aren't great, I seem to rember last year the connection between the guests and the All Stars was great - they would drag the kids up to play darts, table tennis, pool activities etc. This year the connection isn't and wasn't there and very much a disconnection between guests and the "entertainment" ladies.||We have been here multiple times and I can quite easily advise, this will be the last as a family. |Cost savings are very evident - No longer fresh flowers in the lobby for example these are dried dust collectors. If you want a cost saving, get rid of the apples in the rooms - since no longer cling filming, these attract fruit flies and rot - likes ours did in our room! |All Stars - a selection of girls - 1 size fits all, from pool aerobics, to not so great singing! |Get rid of the god awful evening chocolates, yes they taste rank! Kanika branding, we know it's Kanika - I don't need to be reminded of this on toilet paper and chocolates? Another cost saving for you, there's enough branding elsewhere... ||We've been back 2 weeks now and I feel more and more angry about the experience and the 4 star "experience" that cost our family 9k.. its eye watering if I'm honest! ||The travel agent wanted feedback and i've given it time for me to calm down, as this would have been a rant! ||The Great isnt so great and has lost its appeal / sparkle, its disappointing and leaves a rather bitter taste! As always the staff were fabulous and make the "The Great" - great but I'm not going to be going on holiday for the staff, its the whole package and sadly it isnt there. You're becoming more and more reliant on return customers that don't see the issues or the cracks in quality, cost cutting, experience or value only time will do this.|Im sure the auto reply email will advise "we learn from our mistakes" but this experience has cost you a repeat customer, who is very disappointed and is now looking...
Read moreI’ve waited a few weeks since my stay to think about everything and give the most honest review.||Not room we paid for.||We arrived at 11pm on a Friday and was very happy to receive a welcome drink and a delicious freshly made cheese & ham wrap. |Check in was quick and a concierge was appointed to assist us to our room. We had booked a double with a side sea view as shown on the website. We had been to this area in Cyprus three times before so knew what to expect for a view. |Initially we were over the moon with the high standard of the room but on opening the curtains we found we could not see the sea. We were actually over looking the main road and car park. My husband headed down to reception where he was told it would be sorted the next morning. We stayed in the room without unpacking. The next morning (Saturday) we were told there was no room to move us to until the Sunday afternoon which was day two of our holiday. We waited without properly unpacking which isn’t ideal but when we were finally moved we were disappointed to find it was to the other side of the hotel looking at the car park from the other side. By then I was fed up of not being able to unpack and it didn’t look like they cared so we took the room.|We spoke to quite a lot of other guests who seemed unhappy and found they also had the same issue. One gentleman advised me to put an honest |review on Trip Advisor. So that evening I did just that. |The next morning I received a note on my door asking me to go to guest services. A lovely lady there expressed her disappointment at the bad review. I told her I only told the truth. She said the hotel would be happier if they had been given the opportunity to rectify the problem before I wrote the review which was fair enough but I think I did give them the chance to do this. We were consequently offered an upgrade which I hesitated to accept because we had moved already but was asked if we could possibly be shown the room first. The room we were then offered was beautiful with a full sea view right in the front of the hotel. A much more expensive room than we had booked. We accepted and was asked to remove the bad review. |The upgrade was amazing but it was so unnecessary if we had been given the room we had paid for in the first place. My advice is - if booking this hotel email and ask for a photograph of your room or to see a map of the hotel showing the room you are paying for. ||Sunbeds.||I initially thought the allocation of sunbeds was a fantastic idea but in reality it’s no better than allowing people to put towels on beds for the full length of their holiday. Although we were told we could choose our beds and move once other beds were free. Firstly we were offered beds in a place we didn’t want to be in so we moved to a more suitable location - the beds were close together and we expressed that we would like a bed in the lovely adults only area - we were told these beds were full for the whole time we were there. It seems that regulars or good tippers are given these beds and even though most of the time the beds remained empty for the full week we were told No. |Every day there was 30+ beds not used in this area but we were not allowed to move. So the system is fine if you are given a bed you are happy with otherwise it’s hard luck and the sunbed attendant called Stephanos is abrupt and intolerant so don’t ask him for help. All others were lovely.||Food |The hotel advertised three Michelin star themed restaurants. |The Italian was excellent. A wonderful eating experience with multiple courses and service was brilliant and very professional and friendly. |The Seven Orchids was ok but the food was not great and we sat a long time between courses. |We were advised not to go to the Greek Meze by many guests as they said this was awful so we didn’t try it.|The food at Breakfast was ok, a good selection, but we have had better in other Cypriot hotels. Pastries were repetitive which was boring. Porridge like concrete and not a lot of staff to help. |The lunchtime buffet was excellent. We really enjoyed going there. A fantastic pizza selection and pasta dishes made on request in front of you. |If you are Full board you can have lunch instead of dinner. |We tried the main restaurant for an evening meal once and I found it terrible. If there is a theme (it was Asian the night we went) that’s all there is. No variation, so I found it hard to make a meal out of what was there. Usually restaurants put out the usual chips or potatoes & meat etc for people who don’t like the themed food but there was nothing. The main dining room is an old fashioned theme with dark decorations and heavy drapes which is very formal. I found it very dark and uninviting. Some staff were attentive but I asked for custard and chef was abrupt and it took nearly half an hour. We ate out for the rest of our holiday and a lot of people we spoke to swapped the evening meal for lunch and ate out in the evening. |Staff here are friendly, helpful and respectful. ( except as previously mentioned) |One waiter in particular in the Main bar called|Alexandro was very attentive and would always stop for a chat and ask if we needed anything which was really nice. |The pool and the pool bars were excellent. You could order food or drinks from your sunbed using a QR code and staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. The jacuzzi is on a timer and only comes on at set times but it was lovely. Sunbeds were comfortable. |We didn’t see a lot of young people with children at this hotel. It was more the 50+age group. But there was a good little nursery type childcare place which looked very secure. |Entertainment in the evening was ok, nothing special but mostly done by the animation crew who worked very hard and were very friendly. |All areas of the hotel are beautiful and well maintained and the Bathrooms around the hotel were immaculate. |On the whole we would not return to this hotel again mainly because of the food and rooms which is a shame because we walked past this hotel many times and hoped to be able to stay there. It’s a shame it...
Read moreWe stayed in Alexander The Great from 29/10-02/11.||Location brilliant 10-15 minute walk to the harbour. Airport is around 15 mins in a taxi, cost around €30. ||The food in the buffet is lovely, breakfast consists of table ordered fresh omelettes and various poached eggs. We dinned in the Limanaki Tavern one evening, lots of freshly prepared food and we both really enjoyed this. The restaurant has themed evenings every night, we ate at the Italian and BBQ evenings. We chose HB which included breakfast and our evening meal. For lunch you are able to order salads, wraps, burgers but these are chargeable to your room. We had a couple of salads and they were lovely. You can also order food and drinks aswell as fresh towels to your sunbeds. ||Our room was a partial seaview room 158, this was dated and the bathtub had numerous chunks of enamel missing. All towels (room or pool) had an odd smell to them, not a freshly washed smell like being at home! Same with the dressing gowns, they are very hard and have a distinct smell. The minibar is well stocked - we took a couple of bottles of water our first morning these are €2 per small 500ml bottle. The supermarket opposite the hotel entrance sell them for 50c! So we stocked up and purchased them from the supermarket daily instead. The minibar prices are higher but that is due to the perk of having it in your room. We noted not a lot of sockets in the bedroom and if you need a hairdryer bring your own from home as the hairdryer in the room has no cool setting so is very hot! Aircon also not the greatest, we couldn’t seem to get it to be cool enough. ||Please note I have not added to my TripAdvisor account in years (this mainly started after Covid) but I feel this hotel needs an honest review and as TA is my go to for booking any holiday I thought I’d restart it! ||We have previously stayed at Olympic Lagoon Paphos and the sister hotel in Agia Napa. We are huge Cypriot fans and we love Cyprus. We usually travel as a family of 5 (40,40,16,14 and 11). As it was mine and my husband’s 40th this year we decided on staying no somewhere half board rather than all inclusive as we were alone without the children and we have walked past ATG on numerous occasions and always admired it from the outside. ||The sunbed allocation system is brilliant, this is why we book Kanika resorts. We originally had allocated sunbeds at the adult only pool on our first day but it was very quiet in this area and we found it quite uncomfortable. We then moved to the grass area opposite the pool bar which was overlooking the sea. This was beautiful. There seem to be a lot of allocated sunbeds and these are always unavailable yet we saw hardly anyone sat around the pool area, most people were on the grass area. The pool is cold, you have to embrace the first couple of minutes then you are fine but if you were bringing children I would advise on the long sleeve style tops. The inside pool is slightly warmer. Beach is around the same temperature, again would advise on long sleeve style swim tops and beach shoes for little ones as it can be quite rocky. ||Entertainment each evening started at 9-9.30pm which for us was a little late, we are early risers and would prefer to have a walk down to the harbour after dinner at 7.30/8pm. ||Overall this hotel is perfect location wise, it is generally an older hotel, not a lot of young couples. We saw quite a few families but generally much older guests, we didn’t mind this at all. Surroundings are beautiful and everything is immaculate inside.||My only gripe is that it’s €90 to keep your room until 6pm on your departure day. Our flight was 10.15pm so we wanted to use the facilities for the whole of the last day. A checkout of 12pm means you give your room key back and your allocated sunbeds. We’ve never experienced this before in other Kanika hotels. After extending our room until 6pm (you can shower in the gym but this is an adults only area) we then asked if we could eat in the buffet at 6.30pm before being collected at 8pm - this is an additional €30 per person. When questioned about this I was told that other Kanika hotels nearby are all inclusive so this is why you are able to enjoy food and drinks until you leave the hotel. ||We just found this a bit upsetting, we’d paid nearly £2000 for 4 nights flights and HB (due to both becoming 40 this year we decided to spend a little extra than usual) we’d spent money each day on our room key buying drinks and food from the infinity pool bar and the bar in the evening, so to ask for something small to eat before flying we thought could have been a bit discretionary on individual circumstances. |We have visited Kanika hotels many times in the last 8 years coming to Cyprus. There are plenty of other places to eat around the hotel but we were concerned on timing etc and making sure we were ready waiting when our taxi arrived. ||Overall a lovely hotel...
