Good Morning
Last night I had an absolutely wonderful night out in the company of a vixen in Paphos.
We spent the early part in O'Neils Irish bar, Tomb of The Kings Road, Paphos, watching our England Rugby Union team demolish Argentina at Twickers.
Then off to the most splendid taste extravaganza I have experienced in many a year, and an experience which I can thoroughly recommend.
Namaste'
'Indian Street Food' restaurant.
If you want a fancy 'All Fur Coat and no knickers' glitzy experience with bland same-same food then NAMASTE is not for you, and you should avoid it like the plague.
However.
If you are a 'real' human interested in experiencing a cosy, but entirely simple ambiance where authentic Indian food being served just as simply is your focus, then you have to go. You must.
Walking into the restaurant welcomed by Costas, the effervescent owner, your senses will be regailled by Indian background music, pink and green lighting, and very basic, yet comfortable furniture surrounded by bare wood walls, an the warmly enveloping aroma of spices as an olfactoric appetizer even before you are seated.
What follows is the useful offer of an explanation as to how the extensive menu is served.
Service is friendly, quick and unintrusive, followed by a gastronomic quickstep of delight through wondetgully aromatic and spicy dishes served in round metal trays.
No plates.... this is Indian 'Street Food' served exactly as you will find it in Mumbai or Dhelli.
I can not do the flavours I experienced enough justice in written words.
I can simply say this.
Not a crumb was left.
If you are fortunate enough to live in PAPHOS, or arrive here on holiday, then go. Treat yourself.
Become immersed in an Indian food experience the like of which you have probably not had, and one which will not easily be forgetten.
An Indian Restaurant this Good?
For me this was a First, and I am a 64 year old ex soldier. I have lost count of how many Indian Restaurants I have visited.
They pale in comparison.
I certainly look forward to my next treat at 'Namaste in Paphos.
You should too.
By the way.....
The literal translation of the word “Namaste” breaks down into three sections…
Nama means bow;
as means I; and,
te means you.
Thus, "I bow to you".
The gesture is one of greeting in India. Most often by holding our hands together in the prayer position at the...
Read moreI made a special trip from Limassol to Paphos just to visit this restaurant on a Saturday evening, and honestly, it was a huge disappointment.
They gave us free papadam as a welcome starter, which was nice, but that’s about the only good thing I can say. The service was decent, and the waitress was polite, but that doesn’t make up for the food.
I ordered the Sharing Starter with Dahi, Sev Puri, and Chaat. It was fine—not amazing, but at least edible.
Then came the Tomato & Onion Uttapam, which was just bland and lifeless. If you’re going to call it authentic Indian street food, at least make it taste like something. The only reason I managed to finish it was because the spicy chutney was decent.
Next was the so-called “Namaste Special Curry,” and wow—what a joke. It was basically watery soup with boiled chicken floating in it, completely lacking in flavor and spice. I can make a better curry at home.
But the absolute worst part? The naan. I have no idea what they served, but it was not naan. It looked and tasted like croissant dough, dry as hell, and crumbled into pieces the moment I touched it. What kind of nonsense is that? My wife was so disappointed she left the restaurant with an empty stomach.
And to top it all off, they didn’t even have Mango Lassi. It’s on the menu, but apparently, they just don’t bother to stock it.
Total waste of time and money. 2 stars, and that’s me...
Read moreI am so pleased that I did research and found this gem on just a few streets back from the hustle and bustle. it's right what they say, look further afield that the main area and your whole experience is 100% better, more authentic in every way. Naamaste was easy tobook( I booked in advance as we love Nepalese and this looked so beautiful and the menu looked great I knew it was popular from what I'd read) though it was popular you didn't feel like just a number. All the staff appeared happy, super freindly and chilled, a nice calm atmosphere. the decor is beautiful. so colourful. it's like from a movie, if Julia Roberts filmed eat pray love 2, this would be in it. The whole ambience, the music perfect, and the table ware was top quality. I have never dined somewhere so bang on 100% in every way. The food was delicious and so tasty, the menu has something for everyone oooh and herbs and spices 👌 The staff, all well presented and naturally effervescent. I can not wait to visit Cyprus next, next time we are staying West but we already know that we will drive over to this beautiful little gem.
Thank you 🙏 My soul honours your soul. I honour the place in you where the entire universe resides. I honour the light, love, truth, beauty and peace within you, because it is also interesting. In sharing these things we are united. We are the same. We are...
