So, my first time in this hotel. The hotel has an underground parking, and a small one nearby the entrance. The check-in was swift and seamless. My room at the 7th floor was facing the Spielberg, and that was nice to me. The room has a good thermal and sound insulation; the old building from the '60s has been partially renovated with intelligence: the room even if a bit small have new furniture and were very clean. WiFi signal powerful and stable. For the Americans, unable to live without AC, there's also AC. If one wants to be really demanding, I would improve the interior lighting with the help of an expert in lighting, because the lights were honestly weak. Besides the pillow is a bit too thick and I woke up with some neck pain. The mattress, however was very good as the overall quality of the sleep. After a good shower (the upper plate of the shower box probably needs to be cleaned, because the water was very weak),I went for the breakfast, in a big room: you've a wide buffet in line with the local traditions and expectations. There's a small restaurant with a basic menu, so I wanted to browse around the hotel for dinner to have a little walk, but when I came back to the hotel for a good espresso and ice cream, as Italian I was quite positively surprised by the tasty coffee and gelato (chocolate and vanilla, very tasty).. The price is in line with the experience and the location and I hope that the management will keep investing in this is glory of Brno, which deserves the new life is experiencing. So overall my experience...
Read moreI was staying in the Hotel Continental for three nights during a business trip because the place I normally stay at was fully booked.
I arrived with the car and parked in the garage that belongs to the hotel. There are plenty of parking spaces but they are quite narrow.
The lobby area is ok, the check-in was smooth and friendly with the basic information regarding breakfast, WiFi etc given directly.
With three elevators you are being taken to the floor with your respective room. The hallways however are quite dark and a bit old fashioned.
The room itself was a mixture of a bit old fashioned with an approach to the modern. That -in my opinion- didn't work out. The color mixture of light green and light brown actually made it that way. The first smell I had in that room was probably from a bit too much desinfectant spray or something. After opening the window for a couple of minutes it was ok. The bed wasn't that good. The mattress way too hard while the pillows were a bit too soft for my taste. WiFi was ok. Not that fast but stable at least. Anyway for 3, 4 nights it worked.
Actually really good was the breakfast! A big variety and good quality. You can get fresh omelettes, different juices, even some fresh smoothies. Besides the 'regular' stuff you have in every hotel breakfast. Unfortunately the breakfast room is quite noisy due to the floor and much reflections.
Would I choose that hotel again? If my regular hotel is available - no. Is the Hotel Continental a bad hotel? Also no, but it could really use...
Read moreRooms are nice, clean and well-equipped. We really appreciated the extra-large mattress and the views from the window. Breakfast was also nice, although we did miss some more international breakfast options (i.e., more salty options, high-protein foods, Mediterranean breakfast, etc.).
Regarding the service, sadly I have to give a lower rating due to one specific incident we had during our stay. At 9am a technician repeatedly knocked on our door despite having the "Do Not Disturb" sign hanging. They then told us that we needed to let them into the room since they had decided to upgrade the door locks of all rooms in our floor. Since we were checking out that same day, we were still in the room showering, getting ready and packing, so it was a bit puzzling that they chose to do it at 9am instead of a couple hours later when we would have left the room.
Aside from that, hotel staff was correct and helpful when required.
As a side note, please note that the shower in the room steps directly into the bed area and it has a transparent glass door. I guess this may be some cultural thing but we were somewhat surprised to find that (although we were cool with it). Whether you find it curious, awkward or spicy... I'll guess it depends on your specifics.
All in all, this is a solid option for staying in Brno and I would recommend it to others (just please wait for guests to vacate rooms before doing non-urgent...
