This is a hostel with both single rooms, shared rooms, and apartment-style accommodations, not a hotel. My expectations were clear before I arrived, so I have no issue with the room or facilities.
The facility offers three basic room types: single rooms with shared bathrooms, shared rooms, and apartments. I booked a single room with shared bathroom directly through the facility's website. I appreciate that the facilities had a room available, and were able to accommodate me on short notice just before a busy holiday period.
The room was basic yet clean, warm, and comfortable for the time of year. The limited staff interactions I had were polite, and there was no issue with language as I believe it receives many international guests especially in groups. The shared spaces were not busy during my visit.
The biggest drawback was the deposit policy, and the difference i in how the policy was communicated on the English vs. Czech websites. Both websites mention that the facility reserves the right to charge a deposit of EUR 100 (~ CZK 2500) for apartments— but it fails to mention whether this also applied to other room types, like the 'single room with shared bathroom' I had booked.
Moreover, the "Terms and Conditions" are accessible on the Czech website before booking, but not clearly visible on the English website until late in the booking process, making it hard to review them beforehand.
Another major issue was the confusion between the deposit being a "pre-authorization" versus an actual direct charge. Both the English and Czech sites— as well as the accommodation voucher received by email— states that the deposit charge (again for apartments, not necessarily for the "single rooms with shared bathrooms") would be a pre-authorization (meaning the funds would be temporarily blocked but not deducted). However, when I checked in, my card was actually charged the full deposit amount immediately. The lack of consistency in the explanation before and during check-in was frustrating.
This distinction is important. Even though the deposit amount is supposedly returned to you upon check-out (pending verification of the room being left in good condition), pre-authorization usually means a faster return of your funds while a direct charge often means a much slower return of your funds.
It should be made explicit that deposit is indeed a charge, not a pre-authorization online and at check-in— and that the charge applies to all rooms, not simply the apartments.
There was also a small concern with some other guests who were unruly during my stay despite the facility's stated quiet hours. The front desk closes for the evening, and my earlier attempts to notify the staff after hours were not successful. The staff did seem sympathetic and tried their best to address my concerns...
Read moreThe location is excellent since it's near everywhere you'd want to go.||The noisy part refers to the other people who were staying there. The crowds outside on the square were expected and after 12:30am then they're gone so I have no problem in that respect since I'm a night owl.||What is it with Spanish tourists though?||I can understand one group of them who talked loudly in the main room until 3am, but they were gone by the next night to be replaced by another group of Spanish tourists who left at midnight and arrived back at 4am-ish and then proceeded to shout at each other.||The reception stops at midnight so all I could do was to ask them to speak quietly which they did for about five minutes.||My partner moved her room after the first night (Good job, receptionists!) and was very happy with the place so it was just unfortunate that I got lumbered with noisy tourists.||Anyway, it's a good place to stay and after I asked for and got two extra pillows then I can't complain.||If you're woken up by sunlight then take a blindfold with you (like the ones you get in long haul business class flights). Don't try to buy a blindfold in Brno because they will think that you're a pervert unless you buy one at Erotic City. Another story.||That's it, really. I'd advise the management to have someone on reception 24/7 and replace the gossamer curtains with something that actually...
Read moreTwo of us were here for 12 nights while one of us was on a training course and I continued to do my online job. We needed a good budget hotel where we could feel comfortable and relaxed. We loved the old-style building, the wooden floors and tiling. There is a reception on the ground floor from 8 am until 10 pm. |There are various types of accommodation, ranging from 6-bed hostel style to self-contained apartments. As we were on a budget for a longish stay, we opted for single rooms with shared facilities on the fifth floor. There is an elevator. The shared facilities, which include a communal kitchen, are kept spotlessly clean by a wonderful housekeeping team. On a longer stay I really appreciated being able to make a tea or coffee any time I want, have a light snack while working online, pop out in the morning for some fresh rolls. There is a convenience store right across the road from the hotel, and Billa and Lidl supermarkets just a couple of minutes away on Svoboda Square. There are pubs, restaurants and bars to choose from nearby, as well as the beautiful St. Jakub church right on your doorstep. Our single rooms overlooked the courtyard, so we had no disturbance at the weekends from...
