I have been a regular guest at Miss Sophie's Downtown in Prague for almost two years now. Indeed, it is the only hotel I ever stay at in that city, unless it is fully booked. So I was curious to see how the Olomouc branch compares with it||Let me start by saying they are quite different. What they have in common is the very friendly and helpful staff. In Prague they are from many different nations and the lingua franca is English, whereas in Olomouc I had the impression that they were all Czechs, which was good for me as I am learning Czech and was able to practise speaking it with them at reception and breakfast. Needless to say they all speak excellent English for those who are not so mad as to try learning Czech.||The room (no 2) was on the firsr floor and was perfectly acceptable, perhaps trying a little too hard to be "boutique" style. To be honest i prefer the rooms in Prague. The (walk-in) shower appeared to have been hewn out of rock in the wall but performed its function spendidly.||The main problem (for me at least) was the noise from the trams passing by outside every few minutes (except for a few hours in the dead of night). Light sleepers be warned. Try and get a room on the other side. I appreciate that it might not be problem for most people, but I'm afraid I need absolute quiet at night.||There is no lift (I knew about this beforehand), but one of the kind young ladies from reception carried my very heavy case up the stairs (I am 66 and have weak arms). I didn't catch her name but thank you whoever you are. It is probably neither feasible nor permissible to install a lift.||Breakfast was OK but it is not a self-service, all-you-can-eat buffet like in Prague,||So only 4 stars. I would definitely stay here again were I ever to return to Olomouc. The location is ideal, right in the centre and 5 minutes by tram from the railway station. But I would have to have a room away...
Read moreDisappointing Group Booking Experience at Miss Sophie's Olomouc
I recently booked multiple rooms at Miss Sophie's Olomouc for my family during their stay. While the initial reservation process was positive, subsequent communication and policies created a frustrating and disappointing experience.
Positives:
The initial reservation process was helpful and smooth.
Negatives:
Despite booking independently, I was informed by the central office that the reservation was considered a "group booking" and required full prepayment. My attempts to explain that individual payments would be made upon arrival, with my card as backup, were unsuccessful. Multiple emails and calls yielded no flexibility, and the management displayed a dismissive and unprofessional attitude. The lack of flexibility and rigid policy made adjustment virtually impossible, despite booking well in advance. Importantly, booking individual rooms online would have avoided prepayment requirements and offered cancellation rights.
Overall:
Unfortunately, the inflexibility and unprofessional communication regarding this "group booking" designation significantly impacted my experience. While the initial booking process was positive, the subsequent policies and handling eroded my confidence in the hotel's commitment to...
Read moreI have a "double room" that faces the street.
the room is noisy. there are cars passing by my room every couple minute at 1am. It sound like they are passing right next to your bed. Since the road is one of those old bumpy stone roads, cars make a lot more noise when driving on those roads.
there's a vertical gap between the top of the window and the top of the curtain. So the street lights shine through that gap into your room. And everytime a car passed by, there is an extra ray of moving light shining through into your room.
the bed is not flat. The middle of the bed is slightly higher than the sides.
the room is a bit stuffy. It's 80 degrees outside, but feels hotter in the room. I have to keep the windows open but curtain closed at all times.
because the windows need to be opened, there are weird bugs in the room. Couple bugs were like tiny tiny cockroaches that flew... Very yucky.
if there's another room above you, every time the people in that room walks around, you can hear the thumping noise, like a small earthquake.
the room is not completely clean. There are dirt under the table table in the corner of the room.
the pictures definitely look a lot better than the...
