Just returned home from a 23 day stay at Kaoba. The good... Location and pool. The bad: our room was way at the back near the lagoon in the apartment building. The windows didn't close completely, we discovered a hole between the air conditioner and the wall that had been letting in leaves, critters like hornets, ghekos and cockroach. Due to the holes and the windows not closing completely, we could hear everything at the hotel next door and actually had to holler to them to keep it down after 2:00 a.m.The wiring in the room was hanging out of the wall and our ceiling fan threatened to fall on us every day. We didn't get maid service until we asked for it and were told we should have let them know. Just standard stuff that should happen without having to ask. Had to carry a large bottle of water ourselves because it was past 4:00 p.m. and the front desk clerk wouldn't carry it for us. We had used half of our jug for flushing our toilet when the water was out for 2 days and several evenings as well throughout the visit. It would have been a nice gesture for the front desk clerk to have brought it up for us, especially knowing that my husband's health was not good. Also had to ask for toilet paper because we were left with one roll and no maid service for the first 10 days of our visit. Hot water was an issue until the last 4 days and then it was so boiling hot we could hardly touch the faucet.
The pool was lovely but needs more loungers as there are three very older gentlemen who park themselves there from 8:00 a.m. until the sun goes down. They sleep in the loungers all day and IF they leave, they leave their towels and personal belongings there so no one else can use those loungers. Very disrespectful of the rest of the guests when there are very few loungers or chairs around the pool. And little shade, which they always were parked in.
The gentleman at the front desk was argumentative and almost always put the blame back on us as guests instead of just solving the problem.
The grounds at the back of the resort are being used as a dumping ground for their refuse material as they do renovations throughout the rest of the property. Very unsightly when you're climbing the stairs to see piles of rubbish.
We would probably return if we were able to obtain a room in the front building where our friends were staying. They had two bedrooms, kitchenettes and balconies. We had no balcony but were lucky enough to have the front desk clerk provide us with a hot plate, table and two chairs in our room for our long stay. We are grateful to him for that and tipped him very well when we first arrived thinking that this would be the standard we would receive for the entire visit, but sadly that was not the case.
One of the female clerks just sits on her phone all day and doesn't even acknowledge you when you walk by. Not very welcoming at all. The other clerks were very nice.
All in all, it was a pleasant stay because we had friends also staying there and once we realized we had to point out the shortcomings, they did start to...
Read moreWhen our timeshare folded in Sosua, we looked for another place to stay. We stayed for one week Friday February 15 through Friday February 22, 2019. It was just my best friend and I. We chose a room that was much like a traditional American hotel room (ie: 2 queens with a small kitchenette and a bathroom). The pricing was reasonable and the room satisfied our needs. The pool area was pristine and the staff was helpful when we needed them. ||Previous Trip Advisor reviews focus on multiple dogs on the property, but we had no problems with them at all. The owner of the hotel does assist in animal rescue so there are several dogs on site, but we enjoyed their presence. We did not find them loud or distracting and instead they only added to the joy of our experience. I commend the owner for the steps he takes to assist the downtrodden beach animals of Cabarete.||We were able to walk from the hotel to almost every place we wanted to go, and taxis were readily available for longer day trips.||We would stay here...
