Hotel La Tortuga — Hotel in Las Terrenas

Lovely garden but poorly managed :(

I stayed January 31st 2023 I arrived directly from the airport.

I booked my taxi driver from the samana airport to the hotel through the hotel. Five stars for the taxi driver he is awesome and the hero of this story.

I requested a late check in, and emailed with the reception to confirm my arrival time and flight info.

I arrived at the hotel to find myself in the middle of a party (which ok cool, its new years 🥳). However there was not a staff member in sight and none of the people at the party were hotel guests. No one knew what was happening!

Our wonderful taxi driver called the manager for us and finally found a staff member (security guard who had been napping) to check us in.

We had reserved a room with a king size bed and received a room with two twin beds instead. There was no one on site to report this error to.

The room wasn’t totally clean, the stairs were dusty and there were long hairs on them.

When paying for the mini bar the manager did not give me the correct amount of change!

It was ok, but next time I won’t mind paying a little more somewhere else for a better, more professional experience.

The staff is friendly and the breakfast was delicious but the poor management really casts a shadow on all...

Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was a real disappointment. Firstly, the room we were given was dirty, with dust on the furniture and stains on the sheets. The bathroom was in terrible condition, with mold in the corners and a broken faucet.

Although the staff was polite and tried to help, the hotel's facilities were far below our expectations. The Wi-Fi barely worked, and when we asked for it to be fixed, there was no improvement.

The breakfast was also disappointing, with limited options and poor quality food. In fact, we were served spoiled items, and there were many indications that the ingredients were not fresh. The fruits were tasteless and the pastries were hard and stale. Additionally, it seemed that no updates had been made to the facilities since the 1980s.

Furthermore, the hotel's photos on the website were highly misleading compared to reality. The images showed a modern and clean hotel, while in reality, the facilities were old and poorly maintained.

Overall, despite the staff's earnest efforts, our experience was bad from start to finish, and it was definitely not worth the money we paid. There are many better hotels in the area that deserve...

Having stayed at all most all levels of motel/ hotels from Motel 6 to Hotel Continental or Embassy Suites and Marriott. I can honestly give this review .You see all these good looking pictures and nice reviews, one would think this is a good place to stay. I want to be fair to this hotel but I have to say that these reviews are a far cry from what we saw. Three of us went there this last may 2015. The experience what not as good as these reviewers and the pictures suggest. For one, the surroundings were unkempt. the rooms were so so. except for 3 rooms there are no Televisions in the rest of the hotel. The food was awful. We made friends with a local who used to work there. She said sometimes guest would show up and be surprised and ask "is this really Hotel La Tortuga?" I can see that if detailed, the experience would be a very good one but it is not at the moment. It reminds me of a place that used to be good but now lack the funds to keep it up.
