The bungalow was beautiful but hospitality was more than lacking. ||||When my husband and I arrived after a long day of traveling, we were welcomed with a less than friendly hello. Next, we were shown to our bungalow, told not to take the pool towels to the beach, given the keys, and encouraged to pay with cash at the end of our stay (despite the place being advertised as accepting credit cards). I was a bit put off by this proposal upon our arrival. Had we known ahead of time, we would've considered bringing cash. However, when making large payments abroad, it's best to use a credit card. ||||There was a cute bar and patio on premises, but I'm not sure how one would order a drink without going to the owners' bungalow hidden behind a row of shrubbery and calling out their names, making one feel like a nuisance. Had we been told to approach their bungalow if we needed anything when we arrived, I would've felt differently. But we were not. So, even though we were paying customers, we were made to feel as if we were house guests who had asked to stay in the bungalow as a favor and were an inconvenience. ||||The week we were there was very rainy. This was not the owners' fault, of course. Nature has its own way, but my husband and I also have a way of enjoying ourselves despite the weather. One evening, however, the power went out during a thunderstorm at 7pm. Not once did the owners check on us that night to make sure everything was okay or to explain that we could light candles. We would've ordered drinks at their bar that night and chatted with them by candlelight had they simply asked if everything was ok. But alas they did not, and rather than go search for them in the dark, we went to bed and they lost possible business. ||||Because of the rain each day, the terrace outside the bungalow was very wet. One evening the clothe mat they left outside our door was soaking wet (yet this was not changed despite the daily rain), so my husband grabbed a couple of small towels from the wellness hut next door to dry our feet so we wouldn't get the bungalow floor all wet. As guests we were trying to respect the bungalow and not track mud and water everywhere. And we wanted dry feet in the bungalow - is that too much to ask? We had left a pool towel outside to dry on the drying rack, but with the rain it was unable to dry and this towel was not changed once during our stay, nor were we given a replacement for the towel she took when she cleaned the room - so we clearly needed towels. ||||Well, the next day you would've thought we'd destroyed the entire place by the way one of the owners approached us. We had just returned from a lovely day avoiding the rain, when the owner confronted us as soon as we parked the car. She was angry about the towels we had used and gave us a very long and somewhat hostile lecture. We offered to go find a laundromat in town to wash them for her. It was only at that point that she explained what we should do if we need more towels. ||||A proper host, however, would've politely explained that she saw we used the towels she had set aside for another purpose, then explain that we can just ask her next time if we need more, or tell us where to find them. Even more, a proper host would've explained all of this when we first arrived. But to give your guests - your paying guests - a lecture? I was appalled at the lack of professionalism. ||||Later that same evening, on the eve of our departure, we were asked if we had decided about how we wanted to pay - by cash or credit. We said by credit card. The next morning at check out the owners once again showed an immense lack of professionalism. Their machine to accept the payment wasn't working and with anger directed towards us, they tried to blame it on many things - my credit card, the Internet because it was Saturday, etc. (Both of these claims proved to be untrue when I used the same card to buy gas 10 minutes later - number one my card worked, and number two the gas station clearly had functioning internet despite it being Saturday.) One of the owners continued to get increasingly upset and started to blame us saying she had asked us to pay in cash from day one and that we had agreed. Sorry, but no we did not. We simply said okay when she explained it was better for her if we pay in cash. As a guest, I'm not considering what is best for her - on the contrary she should be considering what is best for her clientele which was never one of her priorities. Furthermore, if you want us to pay in cash, then tell us before we arrive so we can make sure to bring it. ||||In the end, we were able to pay through PayPal. As soon as the owner got her money, she turned her smile back on, but we weren't born yesterday. We are from New York; we do not like fake people. ||||I can go on and on but it's not necessary. All I can say is do not run a bed and breakfast if you cannot give your guests a proper welcome, explain how you can be of service, and above all be kind. ||||In conclusion, if you aren't bothered by unfriendly hosts and an utter lack of professionalism, then this might be the place for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere because Las Terrenas is full of lots of great places to stay and has many friendly people - tourists, expats, and...

Read moreMy husband and I spent nine nights at the Leeloo hotel and based on our experience we highly recommend it! The Leeloo hotel offers a peaceful escape from the active town, while remaining a short walk to beaches and restaurants. The hotel's strategic location ensures a nice balance between tranquility and convenience. The staff's exceptional service, from the owner, to Gabi, to the entire staff, is genuinely kind and caring. Led by Gabi, our experience at the hotel became a memorable part of our vacation. Gabi, an absolute gem, answered every question (and we had a lot!) and gave an abundance of great recommendations from her treasure trove of local knowledge and connections! The kind staff and attention to cleanliness underscores a commitment to guest comfort.
There are five huts/casitas, a kitchen, and a pool. The huts/casitas are a testament to thoughtful design, providing a unique and intimate lodging experience that doesn't compromise on modern necessities. The hut had everything we needed for our stay and we loved the sounds of nature at night while lying in bed! The property layout and accommodations provide both privacy and opportunities to meet new people. Each morning we looked forward to fresh coffee, juice, and breakfast. Both breakfast and the pool area acted as a hub of communal interaction and fostered a sense of belonging among guests, further enhancing Leeloo's charm. It allowed us to meet and make new connections with travelers from other countries. Going to dinner in the evenings, we felt safe walking to and from Leeloo. The property is gated and we felt safe during our entire stay. We had a rental car and there was room for us to park on the property.
We walked all over town and along the beaches, and I don’t think there is a better location to stay than Leeloo. The property itself is a little piece of relaxation! With its caring staff, inviting kitchen, and the relaxing pool area where you can chill after breakfast or unwind at the end of the day, our stay at Leeloo truly made...
