I arrived late at night. Check in went smoothly and quickly—at least, it seemed. The room they gave me had not been cleaned after the previous guest. There were wet towels on the bathroom floor, the sheets had not been changed on the bed. The next room they gave me had been cleaned and the sheets changed, but there were no towels. Back downstairs again.||||The room is nice size, but somewhat problematic. The floor in the room is not particularly clean as the floor apparently is dust mopped but not wet mopped. There were no coat hangers in the closet; however, they were provided upon request. Although there is a chair and table, if you have a laptop, the chair sits too low and the table is too high to use your laptop comfortably at the table. So, the “laptop” genuinely becomes a laptop.||||The shower stall does not have a shower door; only a glass partition that covers less than half of the side of the shower. Consequently, water splashes out onto the bathroom floor, actually flooding parts of the floor. Because the humidity is high and because of the amount of water seeping out of the shower, the floor dries slowly. Given the smooth tile, this causes a potential safety hazard of someone slipping and falling. The althernative, of course, is to use a towel to soak up as much of the water as possible. A partial and unsatisfactory solution is to point the showerhead away from the entrance to the shower and stand against the wall to shower. Also, minimize the flow from the showerhead. There are other, less important, bathroom problems. The hot water line to the lavatory has been capped. So, if you like to shave or wash your face with warm/hot water, forget it. Also, the light is in the middle of the bathroom. Consequently, if you are shaving or trying to put on makeup, it is difficult to see the right side of your face because there is no light over the mirror.||||The Travelocity site says the hotel provides in-room safes. Nope. No safe in either room I was given. Consequently, make sure you do not leave your computer or any other valuables in your room. Take them to the desk whenever you leave your room. The site also says the hotel has a restaurant. While accurate, the restaurant is open only for breakfast and lunch; closed for dinner. Breakfast is not the standard buffet, but is individually prepared. Guests are given choices about the type of breakfast they want, and the breakfast is good.||||Unfortunately, the restaurant closes at 3:00. This is important because Guayaquil is not a particularly safe city, especially at night. You do not want to be walking alone after dark—that goes for couples too. Given the equator runs through Ecuador (hence its name), it is dark by about 6:30. For those staying here or at any hotel in Guayaquil that does not have a restaurant, or one not open for dinner, I recommend either eating a late lunch—around 2:30, and having snacks for dinner—or going to dinner around 5:00 to ensure you can complete dinner and return to the hotel before dark.||||More bad news; if you are staying over a weekend, the restaurant closes after brakfast and is not open even for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays.||||While the desk clerks do speak some English, I would not say they are bilingual. This can pose some problem for guests who are not reasonably fluent in Spanish. They are relatively friendly, but most are not particularly helpful. The restaurant staff are very friendly and also helpful; but they speak almost no English.||||In sum, the few positives are greatly outweighed by the negatives. Two stars because of friendly staff and...
Read moreI needed to renew my passport here in Guayaquil. I had never been here before and often told how dangerous this city was becoming. I am on a budget and looked for cheaper hotels in the $20-$35 range but found nothing where I felt safe closing my eyes. Tired after my 8 hours bus ride from Vilcabamba, I went into this hotel and booked a room. If you book in advance you will get a discount but I only showed them on my smart phone the advertised price and they were able to charge me less. All the employees are very helpful and desire your stay is rewarding. The girl at the front desk speaks perfect English and her smile will warn the coldest heart. I learned later that this hotel is only 2 months old at the time I stayed here. It has all resources, Air conditioner (you will absolutely need this), Wi-Fi, cable TV. I enjoyed my stay and will always return here when I am...
Read moreThis turned out to be a good stay. After finding my original room didn't have a safe, was moved to another, very inferior room with very little natural light and no charm. After contacting the front desk, they kindly upgraded me to a much nicer room with windows facing the street and a nice king bed (and safe). The room had a nice bathroom, a flat-screen TV, and a comfy bed. It also included bottled water. The front desk staff told me that it was safe to walk around the area, and I encountered no problems walking around the area, including the malecon and a restaurant down the street for dinner. Was not offered a free shuttle to or from the airport, though the front desk did call me a taxi to the airport. Also was not informed about any fitness center. Breakfast was good, included scrambled eggs, coffee, a croissant,...
