Hotel Fika — Hotel in Guayaquil

Located just a 5 minute cab ride from the Guayaquil Airport, this place is perfect for a quick layover or an extended visit of this city. Our one bedroom suite consisted of a bedroom, kitchen, dining area, living room and a bathroom. It even had a washer and dryer to get the laundry done before the trip home. It was clean, modern and comfortable. It is a 10 minute walk to Mall del Sol, and a $5 cab ride to the Malecon or Parque Historico, two must sees when you visit Guayaquil. This place was perfect, and only $50! For those who are Spanish challenged, the staff is bilingual, in fact trilingual. Steven spoke Spanish, English and French! The unit we rented for four nights did not match the pictures posted on the 'Net. We were given a dumpy apartment with a filthy shower in the bathroom (we were afraid to put our bare feet in the soap scum), yellowed shades (not blinds, as pictured) that did not fully cover the windows, insufficient bed linens, only 1 bath towel for two people/4 days, door frame broken from forced entry (so much for feeling "secure"!), missing TV in living room, missing 1 night stand, missing table under TV, et al. When we inquired about extra towels, the owner said, "That's all there is. Use the washer/dryer and ignore the 'Do Not Use' signs." Don't stay here. I chose this place because i just needed an economical place to sleep for a few hours in between flights. It's right off the main road so you're constantly being bombarded with the sound of traffic and car alarms. The young lady who was working during my check in did not seem interested in customer service. The pillow smelled very used, almost greasy and stale, the sheets also. This is the kind of place that makes you feel like you're sleeping on used sheets. Needless to say i did not get the sleep i wanted and honestly feel the sleeping at the airport would have been better. The good thing is they (kind of) had air...
