The room has a thermostat to control both a/c and heat, as well as a functional mini-fridge and a powerful shower with hot water. The WiFi had some ups and downs, and is one of those weird, disconnection-prone ones where you use the router password as well as go through a login screen. But when it worked, it was reasonably fast.
The beds are comfortable if firm, with nice linens and decent pillows. There are a million light switches to change the room's appearance, and the blackout curtains are so good we almost got in and out without even noticing the really nice view of Parque de Iguanas and the cathedral next door.
There's an on-site restaurant which is quite expensive for Guayaquil (two mains, a starter, and two little 500ml $2 bottles of water came to about $35). The food was fine if not memorable, but the service was patient and kind. Breakfast buffet (7-10am) was included in the room rate, but we slept through it in the morning.
I have slightly mixed feelings about this place, though. We were put here by TAME after an equipment failure derailed our original flight out of GYE. What knocks a star off an otherwise pleasant experience, was getting back to the airport from the hotel. We'd booked a shuttle with the front desk to make it to our rescheduled flight the next day. We got in the car with three other passengers, at which point the driver locked us in with child locks and disappeared for a half hour, as we tried to get out of the car to communicate that our flight would be closing boarding soon. Eventually a family of four with a mountain of bags showed up to pile luggage to the roof and squeeze four people into the two remaining seats. The shuttle could have brought us to the airport and been back by that point. A hurried run through the airport later, we got to our flight as it was boarding, but it left a very sour taste in our mouths on the way out...
Read moretl;dr - nice and friendly staff; moldy odor in the rooms
Fun fact - initially we went to the wrong hotel - there is at least one other hotel of the same chain in Guayaquil. I was tired and initially got a Uber to "Oro Verde Hotel Guayaquil". As soon as we got into the reception there was an extreme strong smell of mold. We were lucky when they told us at the reception that this was not our hotel.
Then we got into the correct one - Unipark Hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and nice. Checkin process went smoothly. However, when we went to the room - it smelled like mold. We got instant feeling of lack of fresh air. It was really unpleasant. Then I went to the reception and kindly asked if they could move us to another room. The man at the reception was nice and immediately agreed to move us to another room. No questions asked. I was happy. For a moment... Another man came to show me the new room - it looked bigger, nicer, with a better view... However, it also had the same pungent moldy odor. I told them that there is no point in moving into another room if they all smell like this. I went back to our first room and booked a room in a new hotel - the WiFi was great! While booking a room in a new hotel a woman knocked on our door. She said that she had been sent by the staff at the reception to solve the "smell" issue and asked if she could come in. I was extremely curious to see what she was about to do and let her in. She came with a bucket of water and some nice-smelling chemical. Then she cleaned the floor of the room for a minute and left. After this procedure it smelled like a mixture of mold with a fruity flavor ¯(ツ)/¯
We left the hotel and while we were waiting for our Uber to the next hotel, the man on the reception came to talk to us and offered to show us a third room, however, we decided not to give it...
Read moreFirst, let me say that the hotel staff was very kind. The were great checking in and out. The restaurants (both bar and cafe) were enjoyable.
The first negative of this hotel was the shuttle service. They require you to organize shuttle service to and from the airport. This was written on our reservation, but it was in small font and not next to the big advertisement that says the have free shuttle service. So, when we got to the airport, we called the hotel and were told we needed to get a taxi because they simply could not pick us up with so little notice.
The second negative was the room. We were placed in "Tower B", which was only accessible after walking through the commercial center. The room was mostly functional, but very very out of date. I am not sure if Tower B is not held to the same standards as the main tower, but it certainly seemed that way. The thermostat had only a nob that changed from "Warmer" to "Colder", and didn't seem to adjust the temperature significantly. I found myself manually turning it on and off as I got warm and cold. The floor was dusty, as though it hadn't been used in a while. Although the sheets and bedding were clean. The bathroom was clean enough, but the tub was stained and the drain plug didn't function and had to be removed entirely. The walls were very thin and I could hear absolutely everything happening, both in other rooms and outside. I had to turn on a white noise app on my phone in order to drown out the cars, voices, and TV shows. The paint on the wall was cracking, showing the age of the room and furnishing.
Overall, this was a pretty out-of-date room. I'm not really sure why, especially after reading some of these other reviews. The only reason I am giving it two stars instead of one: It had a bed I felt comfortable...
