HOSTAL VILLA NANCY — Hotel in Mariscal Sucre

In January 2013, I stayed at the Villa Nancy for two nights on either end of a climbing expedition to the Ecuadorian volcanoes. I was traveling with two friends and none of us had visited many hostels before then and didn't have a great idea what to expect from a hostel in South America. Our flight was delayed and consequently we arrived at 2AM. We arrived, banged on the door, and were greeted by the somehow-still-cheerful Joffre who showed us to the room. Now, full disclosure- I just opened a hostel in the white mountains of New Hampshire and often think back to this experience when guests arrive late or make unexpected demands. My experience with the Villa Nancy has played a major role in my hostel operations. During our travel through Ecuador, we stayed 3 times at Villa Nancy. We enjoyed staying there.||+ very friendly owner who can help you to organise your travel through Ecuador|+ clean & large rooms with ensuite bathrooms|+ confortable and warm beds|+ breakfast is included & water, coffe & tea for free|+ it's safe, nothing was stolen|+ luggage storage|+ fast WiFi|+ close to restaurants and bars (Plaza Foch)|+ very close to a metrobus station (takes you north or south, if you don't want to take a taxi)|+ airport pick up upon request||+/- the old city is within walking distance, but it's a long walk||- far from the southern busterminal Quitumbe, 45 min by taxi.|- no heater, so it's very cold...

I felt like family after staying at Villa Nancy on three separate occasions on my recent trip to Ecuador. Joffry and Bernice are lovely people and great hosts. They really make you feel at home which compensates for some of the shortcomings. On my second stay I had an upstairs room that was very nice but the last time I stayed there, while the room was fine, the bathroom left something to be desired.
