It is very crowded, especially at the weekends. The police is very present, sometimes with a big kind of truck in the middle of the square. On a Friday night I even saw 3 policemen on horses. I got the feeling that there are just too many people about to have an relaxing atmosphere. Locals told me, that it changed a lot and adviced me to be very careful. Interesting and pretty fun area. Probably moreso for folks interested in the nightlife without kids. A wide variety of restaurants and some coffee shops are in the area. Taxis and buses are easy to get and walking around is nice (in an urban way), but it can get a little jammed up with traffic at times, like much of this part of the city.
