Many stars but honest review! Spent 5 nights in this 2p-room (603) end of October (at the corner of the building with city-view) to my 100% satisfaction. The service, flexibility and sincere kindness of the staff (from doorman and cleaning lady upto frontoffice and management) was top class. Such a delightful experience and compared to 5stars hotels a fresh breath of air. The beds and linen are clean, the bathroom is basic but clean and all you need. Also my biggest appreciation for the staff at the Rooftop Bar. The hotel is situated downtown historical area but in a little street so it is suprisingly quiet for this 24/7 ongoing 21million metropole. The area has got some great coffeeshops and all kinds of merchandising in the narrow streets going on plus the more luxurious retail as well. Everything easy by a little walk. Never felt threatened or harassed. Reception desk arranged Uber and Taxi's for us, even at the airport on arrival. Easy way to go comfortably to the new Grand Egyptian Museum and Zemalek, the island in the Nile where all the real luxurious shops and restaurants are. We ate a couple of times there, with the Nile at our feet. It was my 2nd time in Cairo, and for the 3rd time i will not hesitate to book here again. Thank you all, staff of Carlton...
Read moreThis is a hugely quirky hotel. It’s old and has a charm peculiar to it. The room was clean and the staff were really helpful and polite. I chose downtown Cairo because I wanted to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle. The Carlton ticked that box and when it gets a bit much after a long day then the rooftop bar was a great refuge where you could get a meal or a cold beer. The menu is limited and the prices out dated. This needs updating.|It’s not really a family hotel if you have young kids, the elevators have no protecting door as you travel so the walls are moving right in front of you plus the roof bar has some plants in a planter and then it’s an eight storey drop.|You can hear everything outside and there’s some kind of auto part market and someone down there is selling novelty car horns so expect to hear the General Lee clad on going off up until about 10 pm. You can’t come to a city as densely populated as Cairo and not expect to hear noise, see rubbish and nearly get run over. I loved it, it was exactly what I wanted and I absolutely recommend this place but not to families. I would come here again. The breakfast was great and yeah the locks are quirky but that’s part...
Read moreThe Carlton Hotel is a perfect place to stay to experience the best of Egypt. Staff are welcoming and super attentive, the building exudes charm and the lustre of days gone by, and the location is a tucked away side street (selling steering wheels and other car accessories) that opens out onto one of the busiest and most Cairene of downtown squares - full of life and the bustle that makes this city so alluring. Our rooms were large and comfortable, and the whole place has the look and feel of a 1940s film. Fixtures, fittings and decorative details evoke smoky romance, grand tours and cocktails. Wooden floors, dim lighting, huge ceiling fans, and maharrabiya panels incorporated into above bed lighting. One of my lightbulbs was blinking, the fridge didn’t work, and the hot water in the shower was patchy, but this didn’t detract from the overall experience, which I will look back on fondly. The dark and polished wood and faded grandeur may not suit everyone, but I’d choose this place over a generic, off the peg modern ‘international’ hotel any day. Did I mention the rooftop bar for breakfast of omelette, fuul and fluffy breads, or for winding down with a Stella...
