Dirty, run down horrific place and located in slums Cairo. Rubbish all around the streets, cars honking entire night and dirt of this “hostel” makes you just sick! Pictures are misleading as this place doesn’t look like this, I attached the real pictures. “Kitchen” is dirty with broken plugs, sticky surfaces, the room full of dust, dirty and smelly bedsheets (and the fleece blanket) full of stains after a previous user, fleece blanket on the bed instead of a proper duvet, no heating or heaters provided so super cold in the entire place. Shower dirty and broken, no shower curtain so entire tiny bathroom was just flooded; used toilet paper cannot be flushed but put into a bin (!!!). I arrived at around 5am ALONE (single female traveller!) and was harassed by the male staff who would knock to my room’s door, asking me if I’m married, and trying to hug me! When I could not close a balcony door, suddenly this male staff appeared offering me his help! How did he know I couldn’t close this door? Must have CCTV installed in the rooms! After all of this upsetting experience, I cancelled my reservation in the morning but they REFUSED to refund my money!! They wanted to keep my ENTIRE PAYMENT FOR 5 NIGHTS, despite staying there only 7 HOURS!! I felt unsafe, threatened, cheated and stressed with this horrible situation! They are scammers, fraudsters and cheaters so I would avoid this place. Entire trip to Cairo was just a pure nightmare, struggling with this scammers to get my money back. No, NOT RECOMMENDED! AVOID THIS DIRTY and RUN DOWN place, unless you want to be scammed and stay in a dirty...

Dirty, run down, noise from the streets for entire night, located in slums. |I was being harassed by a male staff (as a single woman traveller) who would knock to my door, asking if I’m married and tried to hug me! |When I couldn’t close the balcony door as they were broken, this male staff knocked to my bedroom door offering his help! So, I gathered, they must have CCTV installed in the guests rooms!||Dirty and smelly fleece blanket (no duvet provided), sheets stained and smelly after someone used them previously, dirty surfaces, bathroom, floor and toilet. |Used toilet paper can’t be flushed down the toilet but put into a bin (!!!), which I was not aware of before booking!|Non existing internet, no heating so freezing, broken not working plugs, so another safety hazard! ||I cancel my reservation after only 7 HOURS (arrived ALONE at 5am and left around 12pm in the morning) due to horrible conditions of the hotel and being harassed by a male staff (as a single woman traveller!) but they kept my money for 5 NIGHTS reservation and refused the refund! My entire stay in Cairo was just a nightmare as I had to struggle with them to get my money back! |After all, on my last day they sent partial refund (minus “cancelation fees”!) so, this place is a ONE BIG CON/ SCAM! AVOID!!||Dirty, smelly, with non existent wifi, AVOID this place unless you want...

Very very very bad service. Third floor, elevator working only with the key and no explanation on how to use it the first time you got there (although they write you on the booking.com chat, they do not explain anything): so ended up carrying all the baggage until the 3 floor. At the reception pretty much not English speaking people, who are not able to communicate (even the numbers for the price were in Arabic language!) Room with air conditioned..without remote control. Internet: hidden network ,no explanation how to find it (until I had called the only speaking person...fortunately I had an Egyptian card to call him) People from the stuff shouting and arguing at the reception late in the evening. Price : booking give you a price without tax but you discover the final price only when you are there and it's impossible to discuss it,since they don't speak English. Last but not least : I went with a friend, next day my boyfriend reached us,but he booked a separate room (to avoid any issue ,since we are in a Muslim country and we are not yet married).. They didn't let me enter his room not even to give him a water I had bought for him. It was impossible to have any contact with him until we claimed the issue. And the place is for not-Egyptian people...with Egyptian rules and...

We stayed there for 1 night. We landed in Cairo late at night and reached the building at 3am. The main building gate was closed, we couldn't place a call because we had not got an Egyptian sim yet, but there was a small bell button and the night shift staff came to get us quickly. He helped us settle in. Even though he couldn't speak a lot of English, he helped us understand everything quickly, payment finished fast. He also helped us with the WiFi. The next after checking out we did not have any place to leave our luggage as we were going sightseeing, and they agreed to keep it in the hotel itself until we went and got it at night. Overall very nice helpful people. I would recommend this place to those travelling on a budget. Very good place.

Excellent! The staff were amazing (exceptionally welcoming, professional, friendly, extremely respectful, polite, and helpful). The location was great at the heart of the city, so options for food, transport, and even landmarks in Cairo are pretty much walking distance. The room was very clean with the attached bathroom. I highly recommend Golden Star Hostel.
