Sharing my experience as a solo traveller so people can make their own conclusions before booking. CONS: I booked this through a booking platform but not able to leave a review there as it was through its partner deals. I booked a deluxe double with a balcony and more space than a single around 20 sq feet more - the photos on the platform was misleading. I believe was given what looks like the single room instead with no balcony per the photos of the single rooms on the booking platform. The room was really small so it's hard to place my luggage. The "double" room was very cramped and had a nasty smell that they covered with air freshener. I requested to change and asked about the room size. The receptionist explained they have many types of rooms and it's a double as the room contain a double bed but I don't buy it. I believe all their single rooms have double beds. My room was changed to a bigger room with two single beds (but still no balcony) next to the reception facing the museum which looked like the deluxe room in the photos. As I was wrapping up my trip, I did not want to ask further about the balcony or the room. There was double the noise: traffic noise from the street and also the noise from the reception from the kitchen, phone rings and people putting their phones on speaker at the reception - they were using the kitchen up til early mornings. The kettle in my room had black stuff in it so I didn't use it during my stay. PROS: Location is central at the main square, with the museum opposite. Kitchen lady was friendly. There's a takeaway place next...
Read moreHad some business at the American Embassy and some papers to file .. This place is 15 minutes to American Embassy . I had my Egyptian friend drive me from Luxor . I booked 1 room , 2 beds and thought all was fine for a couple of nights ... Huge mistake . The hotel will tell you that any foreigner can't share the room with an Egyptian citizen ..It is Orwellian and archaic for sure but this is the 'upsell' as I had to buy another room ... This shady business does not disclose this in Booking's "policies section ' so it's a nasty surprise . Happened to another couple of friends too while I was there , they walked away ..This hostile hostel is revolting . Supposedly they are not allowed to take Egyptian currency from me but cash talks with these disingenuous schemers. My 'upgraded' room was overlooking the noisy street and the honking non stop . Did a Bed Bug search and yes found one very alive and happy ..Took photos and spoke to reception, changed rooms to a claustrophobic small room with a mold and mildew farm growing well as the bath had no exhaust fan .. Excrement on the hygienic cleaner next to the toilet was a nice bonus and truly sickening .. The next day my driver was basically going to be kicked out as the curt thin man at reception was not willing to help anymore . I left a day early as I did not want any bedbugs coming home to my flat and kept all separate till washed with super hot water and extra soap .. Rarely do I find dumpy places like this on Booking but guess it happens . Be careful in choosing this place ... I would give it zero stars...
Read moreMe and daughter were on the trip. For me it was a first experience of hostel stay. The first impression of the building and the staircase dampens your spirit. But then the location, rooms and the people makes up for all. Rooms are good for the price. Ahmed and his family members are always there to help you. They really make you at ease. It was always very warmly assisting to be back after a long tiring day. At the end of our trip, I stayed I alone there for 3-4 days. But it was very comfortable and holly stay. I needed that. After all it depends on what you are looking for. Closeness to Taharir square and Cairo museum is the Plus point. Rooms are sufficiently comfortable. Of course at times they become little noise. But then location is the problem. For a solo traveler or only women travelers this place is the best. Immediately you get connected with the people. Then everything falls in to its place. Yes at times English becomes the problem with other staff. But then the owner is always there to sort out issues or guide you. I only suggest if the hostel provide us some printed littrature about sight seeing and do and don't of Egypt's travelling. Printed maps or informative littrature were the things we missed in our entire Egypt trip. If The Museum House put in efforts in that, it will...
