An astonishing 5 star hotel located at the heart of El Gouna with some space for improvement.
Hotel is located in the middle of EL-Gouna, between downtown and the Marina. Surrounded by small, salted-water riverside lakes, it provides the privacy and the exclusivity of a 5 star Sheraton resort.
Rooms are extremely nice and cozy, fitted with a large bathroom and an Egyptian style bath and bathtub( tank ). Air conditioning and heater are available, as well as TV with English, German, Russian and Italian channels. The mini bar is free and available on a daily basis ! The same applies to the room service.
The catering options are not limited to the main canteen, where you will find mostly everything you could chose from. Pasta, salads, Arabic food and some seasonal theme nights available almost everyday. On top of this you can choose to dine at either their Arabic restaurants 1001 nights or the Italian restaurant by the pool. Both of them are exquisite and worth the evening.
Staff was super friendly and forthcoming to us and have made our stay at Sheraton worthwhile.
Poolside and several beaches are available with stretchers to get some sun and towels are provided everyday, on request and for free. Adjacent to the pool and beach areas you will find some small kiosks with mostly drinks and coffee. Food can be prepared as well on request. The poolside as well as the beach, are constantly visited by beach sale boys trying to sell you snorkeling tours or Boat trips to the next island.
The hotel also built a marina for some local tour operators. These are very good and trustworthy for what they do. Be advised that at the marina - as in most Egypt, you will be pushed to Tip pretty much everything. The boat captain, the skipper, the team where you return your snorkeling equipment…. This is actually a bit 2 much.
They also have a gym behind the pool, mostly concentrated on functional training and muscle training. 1 bicycle and 2 run mills is all they offer on cardio! No Rowing nor other machines working. The gym staff ( a guy) was actually quite rude and not really helpful with anything besides pointing out the finger to the occupation list.
You should however consider the following points: The rooms are great but they are in need of a basic renovation! A paint job and some new sealant on a bath, doesn’t cost much and it would definitely make the experience better, specially when we are paying top notch for your hotel compared to your competitors. On our last day, whilst at the beach side, we were asked to get up from the stretchers so that your worker could send them to repair. The chairs were actually fine and you just don’t do this while guests are relaxing. A few minutes after, your worker was sitting on a stair playing with his phone… If your hotel has some renewal work to do, you do it before or after the guests leave the place, not while we are enjoying our high paid vacation.
Our stay at the Sheraton was an overall great experience as a direct impact of your professional customer service, location, landscape and high quality food as well as on how your train your staff to take care of guests. I was personally touched by the warm welcoming of your staff at our arrival and overall level of service at your...
Read moreMagnificent property of epic proportions. Great location, beautiful gardens and lagoons. Service needs improvement in many aspects though. I believe hotel is under transition phase (and ongoing reconstruction - basically half of it's capacity is N/A till December 2023) - so Sheraton / Meriott license is questionable for the future IMHO. As it happens in Egypt, they often do rename and takeover of hotel business. El Gouna is really special, don't get confused this is Hurghada, it's not (and that's great thing).
Moving around El Gouna by TukTuk mini cars was really unique experience.
Hotel personnel apparently focused on German language exclusively, as Germans are 95% of their guests. Still for all other non-German guests communication with personnel can be really hard since they don't speak English that well, even basic level communication is difficult with some, which is simply unimaginable for anyone working in hospitality industry.
Personally I liked the hotel, architecture is epic. It's the largest hotel in El Gouna. Food could be better. Not bad though, but in comparison with other 5* hotels in El Gouna for example deserts are of a much lower quality in Sheraton. They look like cheap market mass production cakes and deserts, just sugar in wide variety of colors so the eye is pleased, but not the mouth/stomach.
"Ultra all inclusive" package is really not that all inclusive, it's simply misuse of the term since for example you don't get nice coffee from the real espresso machine (subject to additional charge) but rather instant coffee from the "printer machine", and that's awful taste. Turkish coffee was great though, and that's middle name of this hotel - lost in space. They will give you something valuable and yet something else very basic will not be available. Since it takes much more manual effort to make Turkish coffee then to use the espresso machine. But the latter is charged. No room dining included too (option, additional charge). Drinks are local only. For instance wine is that bad that even the cheapest bottle from the mini market tastes better. Shameful.
Service at the beach is awful, it depends on the personnel, some of them are really nice but overall they simply don't want to deliver the service unless you tip them or you are so annoying and chasing them all over the beach. Easier was to go to the bar and order by yourself, like a self service. Again, totally unexpected - burgers at the beach are great! So food is great whilst you have a hard time to even get your drink. Space...
Read moreI stayed a lot during the last few years at different Marriott properties with different categories. When I booked Sheraton Miramar as a category 3 hotel I was prepared to stay at a category 3 hotel but what I found was much better than my expectations. At check in I met with Omar Younis who was extremely helpful from this moment till the end of my stay. Omar, who is a perfect fit for GR Manager, and his team gave all support and that was the reason for our stay to be much better. El Gouna is famous for its Marina and the nice restaurants around the Marina but frankly speaking we enjoyed the food at the different Sheraton restaurants better than the food at the Marina. We liked the Italian restaurant where Mohamed Abdel Aal, the restaurant manager, welcomed us several times with his team. We liked the food a lot at the Italian restaurant and this is the reason we went there several times. The seafood buffet there was excellent. The executive chef "Ismail" was keen to discuss with us every time we met about the food quality and get our feedback. The food was really delicious at the main restaurant either for breakfast or dinner. At the restaurant reception we used to meet with smiling Suzy who is always funny and welcomes everyone with a wide smile. Everyone was taking excellent measures for the Corona Pandemic which encouraged us to eat at the restaurant. All staff at the main restaurant were nice and helpful with no exception but I would acknowledge the efforts of Chef Magdi, Chef Mohsen, Chef Abdel Aal at the egg station, Mohamed Abdel Latif, Ayman from Luxor and Gerges. I used the suite night awards to upgrade my stay and luckily we took a wonderful suite at relaxation beach which was well equipped. The only thing that we didn't like was that color of sofas was not matching with the curtains of the suite. We would also like the suite to have a guest bathroom which was not. The view from the balcony was superb. We enjoyed the relaxation beach where Omar, the lifeguard, also took good care of us. The hotel uses El Gouna free internet for all guests which is not as reliable if you would like to conduct a meeting or so. The hotel provides some other solutions like airbox to the elite members which serves the purpose to a good extent. I would prefer if the hotel would have their own internet service...
