Basically, the staff is very friendly and the building is nice but the service lacks reliability. It is super budget friendly so it worked for us
POSITIVE
Very very fair price and good location in the center. We could extend our stay from day to day. We have been upgraded to a 3-beds room because our 2-beds room had no windows - we still payed the same amount. When one of us left, my friend could keep that room for a cheaper price. Rooms are old but clean (no furniture other than beds and hangers). Two electricity sockets for three beds. The roof terrace is very comfortable and has a great atmosphere. A very friendly cat (Bob) lives there and loves to cuddle with guests. The all you can eat breakfast is very tasty and the staff is great. The staff can organise a taxi cheaper than Uber in less than a minute
NEGATIVE no phonic isolation you can hear all the guests in the corridor, room next door, on the street. We could sleep with earplugs Toilets were somehow always lacking toilet papers. One of the toilets on our floor flushed poorly. They offer a tour around West Bank for 10$ (instead of 5$ at other hostels) because guests apparently complained about not being able to stay long enough at the sites during the 5$ tour. Long story short, it is not a good tour. You can’t enjoy the temples and tombs either, you don’t start early enough to avoid the crowds (8:15am is too late!) and our guide made a stop at a “museum” that was only a store, instead of spending actual time in the valleys and temples. Better take a private driver or rent a bike directly on the other side. On our third night, the alarm of a car belonging to one of the owner’s relative parked in front of the hostel rang twice (at 2:30AM and then 5AM for 30 min - so 1 hour in total!). It was impossible to sleep and very unpleasant. They apologized when we brought it up A bit too hash friendly for our taste We gave our clothes to the laundry service and one trouser...
Read moreI stayed here for 3 nights at the end of last month with a friend. The hostel was largely worth what we paid for - Clean, secure, a good and inexpensive breakfast, friendly service, etc. The location was a little rough but didn't feel dangerous - Not that I'm holding that against the hostel in any way.
There were a couple of downsides that I think they could improve on.
The air conditioning in our room was very noisy and not very good - I think it was nearly broken. Also, the staff kept turning our air conditioning off at the fuse (in the main reception area). I appreciate some guests may leave it on when they're not in, which can be expensive for the hostel, but I'm sure they can come up with a better system - It was very annoying having to liaise with reception about our air conditioning every time we wanted to use it, and they even turned it off at night on a couple of occasions.
We paid more for the hot air balloon trip than we could have reasonably done elsewhere (up to about 50% more). That being said, the hot air balloon trip was still a lot cheaper than an equivalent trip in my home country, so I wasn't too disappointed with the slight...
Read moreThis place is a solid budget-option if you're looking for something decent and cheap in Luxor.
It is, however, a bit of a mixed bag. The owner Mamut is charismatic and very helpful. He can arrange pretty much anything you want, a tour, private driver etc at really good prices and he wasn't pushy about selling tours or anything. Breakfast is included and is actually really good, the rooftop area is really nice. The location is perfect, close to restaurants and shops and walking distance to Luxor Temple.
The Not so Good. The room was very basic. The bathroom was really dirty with no toilet paper or soap. Aircon units are old and loud and the room we had was dark with a tiny window that didn't let in any light. Bedding was clean however. I suppose you've got to expect it for the price-point.
I'm giving the place 4 stars for Mamut's service, location and the breakfast, awesome rooftop and cute hotel cat. Just be aware the rooms are...
