I had been travelling in rural SW Ethiopia on business and had a night in Addis before flying back to Europe. After six nights out in the forest, I was really looking forward to some comfort. Our colleagues had booked us into Medal Hotel and I found my room clean, comfortable and a great shower. We were welcomed by friendly staff, great to have somewhere to relax after six dusty days in the countryside.||||While I was there, I developed a health issue which was going to jeopardise my flight home and Gerard the proprietor/GM was incredibly helpful sorting me out with medication and allowing me stay on the room a long time after I was due to check out. The place was very clean I’ll give them that, and location is good. |But there weren’t hot water (and we waited until midnight for that) and they had to move us 3 rooms in 6am until we found a room with hot water. When we complained to the manager about the fact we had to stay awake the first night and didn’t got hot water he just said “oh it’s just bad luck”. On breakfast they only put food in the morning and if you don’t arrive first and some of the things ended (eggs/cheese) they won’t make some for you. Even though it’s clean and the location is good the service and answers they gave us where unsatisfying. You can find better places with that same price, or even guesthouses that cost 15$ a night and have breakfast...

Medal hotel is located in a very convinient place just 10 minutes away from the Addis Ababa international airport. They have a free taxi service. Room was only 55 US dollars including breakfast and a free pick up from the airport. Return to airport they arranged a taxi for 200 Ethiopian Bir. Rooms are spacious, clean and tidy. Bathroom was also clean. The Wi-Fi connection wasn't that good but overall is okay. Definitely recommend the hotel. The owner was extremely helpful and professional.
