Short: I would probably stay here again.
Longer: conveniently located downtown with all the things within walking distance. Lots of shopping, bars and restaurants all within arms reach.
The hotel is a bit odd in the sense that the doors are always locked to get in and you have to use the buzzer so that someone inside will let you into the hotel.
The lobby area is quite small, but expands a bit with chairs and tables to accommodate breakfast in the mornings.
There is one elevator, but since I was on the first floor, I opted to take the stairs up or down.
The rooms are extremely bare bones, quite small, and the bed is ok at best. The bathroom has a nice shower, but they only have one dispenser for a body-hair combo, which I personally don’t like, I prefer to have shampoo and conditioner separate.
The WiFi does the job and I have no additional comments about that.
A rather unsettling note was that prior to checking in and the two days I was there, a hotel staff member was looking at my Instagram stories, which is fine, but I had never interacted with that person, and it’s just a bit uncomfortable. I have a public profile, so I don’t care, but I have never had that happen before in the 16 years of traveling 260 days/year for work had that happen before to my knowledge. so if you value your privacy, perhaps look at a different hotel.
Ultimately, for its price class, it gets the job done.
So here’s how I averaged the stars in my review:
Room: 2. WiFi: 3. Staff: 3. Amenities: 2. Location: 5. Gym: N/A Vibe: 2. Walkability: 5.
Average: 3.14, rounding to 3 stars.
These reviews are just honest impressions relative to other hotels in the same price range around the world. Not looking to provide additional feedback. Not looking for...
Read moreWhat a lovely hotel. Newly opened, centrally located. Super confortable. You have to park your car at Parking République about 300 meters away (underground), the hotel has a deal with them for 8.50 eur per 24 hours. Make sure you validate your parking ticket with the hotel before leaving. I arrived on 28 July at 21h for two nights, after a long 9 hour tiring drive from Poland. The hotel allows you to come up inside the pedestrian area where it’s located, leave the car in front for 20 minutes to offload you bags, before directing you to parking république to park your car. Wonderful welcome at reception, great big room, the bedding was perfect. Wonderful rain shower in the bathroom. The following day at around half pas noon a bit of noise started upstairs, either a family had just moved in, or cleaning people, I don’t know. I wanted to sleep more, that’s how tired I was from the trip the day before. All it took was a phone call to reception (12.30h) The lady said she’d come up and investigate. 10 minutes later, the noise was finished and never restarted. It was excellent. Please thank this colleague for me. That’s how the difference is made between a hotel that takes care of you, and a hotel that doesn’t care. I was able to rest all afternoon, before another long 9h drive to the south of france the day after. Once again, in a good hotel, it’s the caring staff that make all the difference. Obviously the manager of this hotel has selected the staff very carefully. Thank you for the lovely stay, and I’ll recommend to friends and colleagues...
Read moreWhile the hotel was well presented and warm, it was quite a walk up the pedestrian precinct with suit cases for two late 60's people where one was disabled and recently had heart surgery. The dificulty was not so much the walk as once at the hotel there is a lift available which there is not at the public car park that is nearest hotel. All the parking levels come out on a shopping concourse at one level below street level where the only exit to street level was up a set of about 30 stairs. Although this is not in the control of the hotel I think future users should be aware of the draw back to parking. My only critisism of the hotel was the breakfast layout which felt cramped for the number of users and there was a poor selection compared to other hotels I'd used that week, the ONE coffee machine produced a queue of at least 6 people constantly whilst we were at breakfast. During breakfast the machine needed replenishing which a young member of staff started to do but half way through seemed to prioritise clearing a recently vacated table over finishing replenishing the coffee machine. This I put down to inexperience or lack of supervision of the staff who all appeared to be very young compared to the other hotels (a total of 5) that I'd stayed at the...
