Fast food, everything deep fried so disgusting. The patatas bravas have nothing to do with the real thing ! Full of oil and tasteless (clearly frozen),even the sauce was horrible (nothing like the real spanish sauce for the patatas bravas). The service was also the worst! I asked for napkins to clean our hands of the tone of oil in the food, the guy gave me one small like he was taking them out of his pocket. Be a bit generous, we are a table of 20 people, we need to wipe our hands! The plateaux a partager (33€ each) are for 2 people max not at all 4 as they say! A shame honestly but yes ,it is the centre of Nice so they only care about profit. Even the water was scarce! Cocktails are all water and ice! Run away!

Beware! Was in Nice last week and decided to go to El Merkado for our dinner on our last night (we wanted something other than pizza or pasta!) but was pretty disappointed with the food. This place is more for drinks & happy hour. Not family friendly as there’s smokers that surround you. The food literally came out in 5 mins after we ordered (which was a sign in itself). It wasn’t fresh at all... we ordered the patates (which tasted like over cooked chunks of big hash browns), chicken wings (overly battered), paella for sharing which looked like a small dish (tiny, dry and tasted like you got it from a buffet counter) and the meatballs (really dry, undercooked and not tasty at all — look at the picture!)

I had some tapas there recently and I have to say "What a shame".. It was hit and miss unfortunately. It did not taste authentic. I'm not Spanish but I have been in a few Spanish restaurants before. The biggest test was the paella which tasted like regular rice with some tomatoes and one prawn. I have to say I make a better one at home. Octopus was a disappointment as it was swimming in a very tomatoey sauce overpowering the delicate seafood. The other dishes were ok but not great. This place was recommended to me and I must say food-wise it's not great at all. It's a nice place to have a drink though as I liked the decor. They offer a wide variety of drinks.

Good place to just sit and have drinks.

The food is just OK. We ordered 4 dishes; 2 we're served hot and 2 we're room temperature. The fried calamari was room temperature and soggy.

The outdoor dining area was full, but the indoor dining area was nearly empty and included loud music. Almost as if they didn't want you to sit inside. The restaurant was clean. The taste and presentation were average.

The service was fair. They sat us at a dirty table. When the waiter brought out the silverware, he just put the napkins and silverware in a pile on the table. They serve you almost as in the U.S. When you ask for the bill, they clean the table right in front of you so they can immediately seat the next customer. Felt a little rushed.

I was going to give this restaurant 3 stars but took one off due to the service.

When we got here we got sat at a table that had not been cleaned off an still had dirty dishes on it. We weren't given any menus when we got sat and waited for about 20 min for them to take our first drinks. The table next to us told us they had been waiting for 45 min to get there order in. After, we heard the waiters arguing and yelling at each other inside the restaurant as we were seated on the patio. I was excited to try their tapas but after waiting for 50 min for just one drink and never being asked if we want food and only having a certain amount of time in Nice to explore, we hunted down the waiter and just asked for the check. Horrible, unorganized, and unprofessional service. I normally don't write reviews but if the tables around us were talking amongst one another and annoyed as well I figured I share our...

Terribly rude. Asked for a pizza, was given a recommendation to order and modify a different pizza. The result was a cheese pizza with a handful of scattered olives with pitts. Are we supposed to eat olives with pitts? Are we supposed to accept the rude waiter "explaining" what a pizza includes in the most condescending tone "for the next time you order a pizza - I'm Italian" as a satisfactory answer? Told that the pizza was ordered, correct in his eyes and had to be paid. All of this could have been avoided without the attitude and condescension - but he wouldn't even give us the bill bc he was so annoyed we wouldn't agree with him, that he told us to ask someone else for it. He also said we were, "incredible" which I'm choosing to take as the one nice thing that came out of his tasteless...
