I was staying at Hôtel de l’Europe for 1 week during my search for an apartment in Paris and found it to be a great experience. While some people would consider it a little basic, it is a much nicer experience to stay somewhere authentic and run by polite and personable staff than a big chain hotel. My single room had everything I needed (desk, toilet, sink, bedside table, tv, comfy bed) and was cosy, housekeeping kept the room perfectly clean and stocked with soap/shower gel and toilet roll every day. My room faced the street and the window was a little hard to close but as long as you aren’t bothered by the usual evening sounds you will be fine. One thing is that the room was not soundproofed as I could hear the TV in the other rooms near to mine, but this didn’t really bother me personally as it was just from time to time. ||||The area is also a great app location, close to many restaurants down avenue de Clichy, there are a lot of options ranging in price and cuisine so anyone who stays here can have a lot of choice of where to eat or get a coffee. If you don’t fancy going out for a coffee, there is a small machine at reception which is only €1 for a coffee which was also convenient. I didn’t try the breakfast so I can’t comment on that. Plenty of shops, bars and supermarkets nearby as well. Note also that the hotel provides a shuttle service to Paris airports which is considerably cheaper than taxi/Uber, thanks to the staff at reception for notifying me of this. The staff were great too, I speak French but they have good English proficiency if you don’t. Very helpful and personable and I definitely built a good rapport with them from staying for a few days.||||If you are looking for a lower budget option in an optimum location that isn’t too loud or busy, and close to touristic areas, this hotel will be great for you. I had a lovely experience staying here with no trouble or discomfort and would highly...
Read moreThe most important first: The rooms don't look anything like the pictures you see here. The rooms are small and uncomfortable. Take the worst picture you can find here in the reviews and imagine it even worse. The furniture is all damaged, the mattresses are old and saggy and my pillow was stiff and insanely uncomfortable. I ended up using my sweater as a pillow. The man at the reception made copies of our IDs/passports. As far as I know, that’s illegal.
About the staff: One customer was unhappy with her room - she asked for a refund. Of course, this is not possible (as it says everywhere), but the way this customer was treated was totally unacceptable and highly disrespectful. The woman was literally shouted at and given no room to talk.
At first I wanted to give the hotel two stars. But after the incident and the unbelievably bad treatment of the customer, I only give it one. I would like to give it zero, but that's not possible. In my opinion, the way in which customers are treated is of the highest priority.
More about the rooms: Windows aren‘t sealed properly. You can hear and smell(!) everything (primarily cigarettes). It’s like having no windows at all. Keep that in mind. There was no shower in my room so I used the one from friends in their room. In addition to that, the toilet is pretty low-budget. Thin toilet paper and a seat that‘s entirely made of plastic. Feels like it could break at every second.
The walls are also pretty thin. I was able to hear everything that was going on in my neighbor‘s rooms and in the lobby. Not comfy at all. The rooms were clean at first glance. Means: Clean at every open spot but everything that requires a bit of effort to clean is sadly not clean and full of dust.
At least my room was tidied up every day. Not cleaned –...
Read moreFor starters, keep as far away as possible from this HOSTEL as possible as it cannot be counted as a hotel. We booked a 2 nights stay here 8 months in advance to ensure a cheap price for our stay. We rang to confirm the booking a month before our arrival and were assured that the booking was paid in full and we did not have to worry.||||Upon arrival we were then told that our booking had been cancelled the week before we had originally rang to confirm. The hostel had all our contact details yet failed to inform us of this knowing we were arriving from a foreign country and would have nowhere else to go. ||||The staff were completely unconcerned about our safety and repeatedly denied responsibility for our booking. The staff sent us to their sister hotel "Hotel du Nord" assuring us they would have space for us for €60 a night as they had rang in advance. ||||On arrival we were told it would be €70 a night instead, having the choice of staying here or on the street we had no choice but to pay it. Walking through the hotel it was absolutely filthy and the smell of the indoor rubbish bins was nauseating. We were shown to our room where we greeted to a MOUSE climbing down the curtain. We immediately requested to be moved and the receptionist gave us a bedroom 2 floors up as "there was no way a mouse could be up there". ||||The room was marginally better, however all furnishings were extremely dated and there were stains on the wall. Overall it was a horrendous experience for my partner and I and I would recommend giving this hostel a wide berth if you are going to Paris. If you value yourself at all pay the tiny bit of extra cash to be sure you have a place to stay at night far...
