Hotel Otonali by Breizh Café — Hotel in Saint-Malo

Did the job. Clean and comfortable. Slightly basic facilities (no wardrobe or kettle), but wifi and shower good which is more important to me. Friendly/helpful staff, free glass of cider/apple juice in the afternoon. A little road noise by the ‘main’ road but it’s St Malo - not that busy! No sea views but very short walk for a swim (unless the tide is out! In which case it’s five times further). Lovely sandy beach (supposedly won best in France last year - seems a bit of a stretch - but it is nice). Location is 10 mins walk to the old town - along the beach/seafront. Breakfast looked fine for 15 Eur but not sufficiently...

Looked great, but parking hard, lift got stuck with myself and children in it, finally managed to get out after about 15 minutes-children in a mess by this point-to walk into a “family” room which was furnished with what looked like ex office furniture. When I spoke to staff about the lift i was told it didn’t happen that the lift worked well. We then had to pay 15€ each, even for my 11 and 14 year olds, for a breakfast that was not upto the price charged. I would not recommend at all and we will not be...

The hotel’s location is ideal — just a short walk from the old town and the beach. The only two drawbacks were the smell in the lobby area, which we found a bit unpleasant due to the café kitchen nearby. Around lunchtime, the smell of cooking becomes quite noticeable, and we had expected the space to be more pleasantly scented.
