Disappointing.
The good points:
-The place is very cosy and comfortable, with an exotic decor and music.
The dishes and tapas we had (crêpe, tartare d'algues and Hummus) were fairly good, well plated in beautiful plates and bowls.
The negative points:
-Some of the food we had was really overpriced for the quantity and quality. The crêpes are pre-made, but priced as if this were an authentic crêperie. 12 euros for a pre-made crêpe filled with gruyère, caramelized onions and an egg, and a small salad. 7euros for 2 small tablespoons of tartare d'algues with 5-6 small slices of bread. 8 euros for some Hummus with 1 pita bread (see photos).
-You will pay for the water, which usually only happens for high-end restaurants, and is usually explicit. Here, we had to pay for a 1 liter plastic bottle of water for 2, and only realized at the end.
-The staff keeps people from sitting at the table they want to sit at during their break. They literally kicked an old man from the table they wanted to sit at.
-Finally, unlike what the name may suggest, this is not a coffee shop. The cappucino's milk is burnt and watery, espresso are weak and watery. Don't expect barista's quality coffee, but it could be my fault for assuming it was.
I would urge the owners to reconsider their prices and serve tap water. Also, if possible, they should have a dedicated eating...
Read moreSmall restaurant with the beautiful view on the sea. Menu is a bit different here. Like kinda bio and ecologic. It's not very typical french cuisine. We had hummus, rillette de mackerel and a crepe (not buckwheat flower tho) with egg, cheese and caramelised onion (with salad that I really liked, it wasn't just salad leaves but some cucumber, colander, nuts). I found prices maybe a bit high. Crepe was ok 12 euro but rillette and hummus a bit pricy 8/9 euro. They also have some deserts and sweet crepes too. My husband also ordered a tea with milk in the morning there for a take away and he paid 4 euro for it 😱 I understand that if he had it there he would probably have a jag with tea but 4euro for a small take away cup is quite a lot. As he said the most expensive cup of tea...
Read moreWhat a darling little cafe! Most of our mornings in San Malo started before they opened at 10am, and I'm so glad we were able to stop in on our last day. We've eaten almost exclusively pastry for breakfast while we've been in France and I decided to break from that norm. The granola and yogurt was perfect for a day on the trains. The shop is cute and the owner spoke beautiful English. I heard her speaking with many of the guests. I loved the eclectic decor and watching the ferries on the water....
