Strengths of the hotel:
Weaknesses of the hotel:
The room we booked was in a state of disrepair. There were many dirty/greasy handprints on the walls, a previous guests dirty towel in the cupboard, a bathroom light was hanging off the fixing, a bedside table was missing a handle, the curtains were ripped, there was a hole in the wall in the second bedroom, the sliding door was unsecured, the headboard was missing from the master bedroom with lots of previous missing fixings visible on the walls, the coffee machine was dirty, there was a horrific sulphur smell from the kitchen sink and later we discovered a basin full of putrid water that had clearly been there for a significant period of time as there was a deep black rim along the top of the basin, which was in place to catch a leak from the water tank to the kitchen sink. This was a health and safety risk for legionella. Previously having raised the issues of disrepair without any resolution, we raised the discovery of the water and raised concerns with staff. We were offered free breakfast. A technician came to see this and said he was unaware of this and would need to work on it. By this point we had packed our bags and made the choice to book alternative accommodation. This is not something we have ever done before but the catalogue of issues left us with no alternative. We have requested a refund but not yet heard anything. We spent our last two days in a lovely clean hotel room elsewhere.
The hotel is more of a hostel, and although it does get a few things right, the overall feeling is that it's trying to look good in pictures rather than actually being a nice place to stay at. We were two people checking in, and as we entered our room we were hit by a very strong smell of chemical cleaning products that stayed throughout the whole stay even though we kept the windows fully open the whole first day. It seems the pipes in the bathroom were bad as there was always a nasty smell in there (and it felt like the strong cleaning products were used to cover that up). There was only one towel for the two of us, the trash had not been emptied, there is a kitchen in the room, but you need to clean it yourself and it doesn't seem to include all the necessary kitchen utensils. The room is clean, which is nice, and when we asked them to take out the not emptied trash for us, they did it and were helpful. There is also a small TV and stereo (that we didn't try). The room has a few signs telling you to be silent and respect your neighbors, do your dishes, and save energy, which do not feel very welcoming. It's fairly cheap, so you shouldn't expect much, but our feeling was that the care had been put into making good advertisement for the hotel, not making the actual stay nice, and in the end, it feels like a hostel.
