The Hotel is very well situated in the old picturesque part of Troyes where all the old buildings lean the most. The hotel has the attraction of underground parking, which is very useful. However the signage from the car park to the reception is minimal. Was this a warning that the hotel did not really want you and ran better without guests?||||A longish walk for my lovely wife, Wilma our gorgeous dog , and me, the old man ensued until we reached the reception, where we were greeted by the man on the reception desk. Greeted is perhaps the wrong word. He acknowledged us without any welcome whatsoever.||||He told us we were in room 101 and wanted payment up front. Did we look that untrustworthy? I think not.||||We paid and took the lift to the first floor with no offer of help with our luggage. We opened the door. It was not a pretty sight. Dark and dingy with a air con machine or something blowing away just outside the window. Rachel was already out of the room before I turned round to say we won't stay here! It turned out this was the disabled dog room. Yes, we had a dog, but neither she nor either of us were disabled.||||Back at the front desk we told the man that we did not like the room and could he offer us something else. He was a little surprised. I could tell because he raised his right eye brow. He offered us room 402 instead. Off we traipsed again without the offer of any help.||||This room was a fair bit better and had views over some roof tops of Troyes. The bathroom was large. The "room" housing the toilet was tiny. I am only 5ft 7" and when seated in there, my knees almost touched the door. ||||The bedroom carpet was that awful dark beige/minky brown colour. The sort of colour that looks dirty even if it is not. We decided not to walk barefoot on it just to be on the safe side. ||||The bed was comfortable. We slept well. ||||Breakfast for what is classed as a 4 star hotel was poor. Pre cooked scrambed egg sitting on one side of a warmer and bacon on the other side. Not a nice sight for veggies. There was an average fruit salad. Hard boiled eggs. (not in the fruit salad) a selection of cheeses, yoghurts and breads. There was one small coffee machine. If there was a rush for coffee then people would have to wait a long time.||||So for 228 euro which included 10 euro for doggie and 12 for parking this was a very over priced hotel. How it keeps its 4 star rating is beyond us. The man on reception at 5pm Monday 23 January matches the hotel perfectly. Cold, unfriendly but functional. Apart from the parking and location it is a soulless place and completely lacks any...

Read moreAfter staying in this hotel for more than 30 years, this was our final stay here. It’s is clear from TripAdvisor that we are not alone in our views of the hotel. We did try and bring our unsatisfactory stay to the attention of the management/owner and were replied to by the head of reception who tells us that our room, a Junior Suite that we had to pay for in full when we arrived at the hotel, is due for a refit next year but did nothing to address the problems we encountered. The room was filthy, thick dust everywhere, light bulbs not working, a toilet cubicle which was tiny and filthy, a rug in our room that our dog liked the smell of (we were sure not to walk around in bare feet), a huge shower cubicle with squidgy/spongy flooring, no light, black mould and you get absolutely drenched trying to turn it on, inferior quality towels thin and tiny, a safe that needed the battery changing and resetting, and a very stressed receptionist who was seemingly responsible for everything in the hotel at the same time (indeed the man doing check out in the morning was also doing the breakfasts for guests). The receptionist tried to tell us someone had stayed in the room last night without a problem, this was a clear lie, she also intimated that perhaps i didn’t know what i was doing, which I took umbrage at. We understand that things during the pandemic have been difficult, but the place really was not clean and we did not feel comfortable there. The worst thing was that my husband left his wedding ring on the bedside table and we realised it later on the day we had left. We telephoned to be told nothing had been found, we asked them to check with the cleaner and they purported to have done so. Of course no one found it…..or owned up to it and we did try and explain that people leave things all the time in hotel rooms and they do expect an element of trust, this fell on deaf ears. We had already decided to review the hotel before we realised about the ring, that was just the icing on the cake. A very sad post and we are sorry to have to write this review in...
