Mikon Eastgate Hotel - City Centre
The location of this "hotel" is excellent, that is pretty much the only positive thing that I can say about my shortened stay at the Mikon. We checked out after our first nights stay.
This is a very long list, the entrance to the hotel is extremely bleak with no warmth or anything that makes entry enticing. After checking in the receptionist who was very pleasant advised we had to walk through the terrace and breakfast area to get to our room. This room which is in the eaves of the building was dingy, with a door that did not stay closed unless it was locked and even then the door was hung so badly that light flooded through the bottom and side of the door at night. The room was also extremely warm with the only means of ventilation a velux window which did not have a blind but did have a curtain draped from a pole above the window which did an extremely poor job of keeping out the outside lighting at night. Having to leave the window open also made the loud street noises of Berlin at night impossible to sleep, even if the bed had been comfortable enough to elicit a good nights sleep. The bed was rickety and ever move made it groan, shack and creek.
Now lets turn to breakfast, advertised as a continental breakfast I was not expecting a full spread in this COVID time but I was not expecting to be served the vegetarian option of a small roll, slices of cheese and a boiled egg. There was also so signage indicating what the protocol was for getting this breakfast. I only figured out what was going on by watching German speaking guests talk to the staff who didn't understand my English. My partner who is not vegetarian was given the same breakfast with me but with a poor quality looking sausage that also tasted like plastic. In the breakfast room there was also a swarm of angry wasps with staff doing nothing to try and deal with the infestation.
We were booked in a three night stay but checked out after one night because of all the above reasons and more. We reported to reception that we had no hot water to be told a technician would be on site in 10 minutes anyway as the elevator had stopped working. The staircase was dangerous and extremely poorly light and not in the least bit accessible and felt...
Read moreAs a hotel that doesn't offer keys to its guests to get in the main door, Mikon Eastgate Hotel Berlin must seriously consider an alternative entrance system to one it currently uses.
After a brilliant but long day in Berlin, me and my mother were left ringing the downstairs buzzer for half an hour at midnight before being let in to the hotel. This was after buzzing, telephoning reception numerous times with no answer, and walking to another nearby hotel for shelter and to continue telephoning waiting to be let in. I find this particularly hard to justify, not least because we are two single women left in the dark late at night the day after a torrential thunderstorm.
This is in addition to being left outside for 10 minutes on the day we arrived.
I do not expect this from any hotel - especially after paying 195 Euros. We took up our complaint with the reception and were insultingly offered 5 Euros off our bill. After suggesting we might be allowed two free hire-bicycles for the day at a total cost of 20 Euros (or nothing to the hotel) we were again insultingly offered one bicycle. I believe our request was very well justified and adequately fair.
With this in mind we want to thank the Nordic Hotel Berlin Mitte just up the road for being so welcoming and allowing us to use their reception and telephone to ring the Mikon Eastgate to be let up to our room. We won't be using the Mikon again or recommending...
Read moreI have only one word: dishonest!!! We booked 3 double room for 4 nights becuase we wanted to celebrate Easter with my son. Unfortunately we had to cancelled the reservetion one week before becuase a tumor has been diagnosticated to my son-in-law's father. My son went to cancel the reservetion and the woman at the reception said that it was everithing ok. In my reservetion contract it was written that you could cancel the booking 14 days in advance free of charge. The woman at the reception said to my son that it was probably a typo mistake. Since we didnt' get any e-mail or confirmation of the cancellation, my son called them again. He found another woman and she said that there was another room booked and that I should write an e-mail to them to confirm the cancellation of each room. She also said that there was one room left and since if it could be possible to send an e-mail to confirm the cancellation. So the answer was that we had to pay 90% of the amount for the 3 double rooms. My son called them again and they said this are the roules. After only 1 hour we checked and the hotel was fully booked again. I would raccomended to anyone to go to this hotel. They are dishonest and they take money from misfortune of...
