Bonfini — Restaurant in Berlin

tl;dr: Cozy itialian place with good atmosphere, good variety on the menu, good food and a decent selection of wines. strong recommendation, we would come back.

My GF and me spotted the place on our way back to the hotel on a Sunday night and thought the red and white theme looked inviting. we read countless recommendations on the Internet regarding fancy restaurants in Berlin-Mitte but decided to walk back to this place and give it a try. we were not disappointed: the waiter was polite and quick, the menu includes Pizza, pasta, a variety of meat Cuts, fish etc. several pages of wines (mostly per bottle) and classical italian starters make you not miss anything here. we ordered the mixed starters, veal in pepper-cognac sauce and duck in some wine-orange sauce and were very pleased with what we got. the meat was accompanied by rosemary potatoes, long beans, Brokkoli and cauliflower and the meat quality was good. Grappa to top off the dinner. the place sells dishes at different price points so that you can spend more on the meat if you want to but can also just get truffle pasta at a very competitve...

Working with the Regenerate team in Roumania in a Romaine village, and then an evening off at a special restaurant. One of the things that makes me smile is when you come across what I regard as left overs from the communist era. I was with a team of 13 people, but I arrived by myself at Bonfini, and then - how do you get into the place, Wandering up and down stairs, finally found the door. So typical, I do remember the days in Eastern Europe were shops very rarely had shop windows, and certainly no advertising that was the first thing that stuck me when I visited in the days of yore. Having found my way in, great restaurant, good food, great service, ample servings in fact I would highly recommend, well worth finding...

By all means, food was good—antipasti, pizza, pasta, deserts. But the service left us with mixed feelings, to say the least. Not sure what happened, but it took one hour and a half for the food to arrive, and my pizza was the last—about 2 hours after ordering. By the time I started my pizza the rest of the party were finished. That makes for very poor dining experience. Especially since the waiter, who excused his “inexperienced” colleague afterward, gave us at first a bit of an attitude when we complained.
