I live in England and me and my boyfriend who is from Düsseldorf are currently dating long distance. We thought it would be nice to book a nice hotel for a romantic stay. We booked a queen sized room with a mini bar, we received neither of those things. The bed was not a Queen but simply two single beds pushed together and two separate duvets, which was NOT what was shown the photos. It was an extremely uncomfortable bed, and through out the night the two beds drifted apart. Which as you can imagine, for a couple who wanted to be close to each other after a month of being apart was extremely irritating. The bathroom was bar-able, there was soap and a hair dryer included and it was clean. However there were no extra amenities one would expect considering the price, no cup for tooth brushes, or any cups in the room in general, there were two towels, which we’re both absolutely tiny, not bath towels. There is underground parking, however, do not be fooled by this attractive prospect because it is absolutely tiny. The moment we got there we were informed that the car park was over booked but we entered anyway, half the car park was cornered off for what I assume was a group business booking, which is fair, but when you are promised parking you expect parking. We managed to take the last parking space that was left. This problem is annoying in general but it’s made 1000x worse by the fact it is €18 per night just to park there. Although this does not speak for all staff as many were kind and nice, most of the staff we spoke to seemed pretty clueless. My boyfriend speaks both German and English, but was unable to communicate with many of the staff. For non customer facing roles this is understandable and common, but for bar and front of house reception staff it’s extremely frustrating. One of the bar staff was unable to understand what “ice” was in both English and German and had to be assisted by another staff member to understand. After all this, we were told they didn’t have any ice. What hotel that advertises a bar does not have ICE????? We went down on the last morning on our stay and experienced the same problem trying to order coffee. As an English person who regularly visits Germany and is currently learning German I understand how difficult it can be to learn a new language. I mostly feel bad for these poor members hired by management to be in customer facing rolls, when management knows full well these poor people will feel like a deer in headlights trying to communicate with customers, it’s not fair on them and I imagine extremely stressful and also not fair on customers. The smart tv worked well and the room was clean, the overall look of the hotel was very modern and comforting. The location of the hotel is good and within walking distance to a lot of things within Düsseldorf, the road it’s on is quiet and pleasant. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone hoping to stay somewhere nice and romantic. It has a luxury price tag but isn’t a luxury experience whatsoever. For a business stay this hotel does the job, but for anything more...
Read moreIm generally a very easy customer to please and have never taken the time to write a review about a bad experience. But the horrendous experience at this hotel can not go unnoticed. My husband and I checked in late thursday evening after a long flight, payed and checked in for 2 nights at our rooms and expected some restorative sleep before our work-day on friday.
Suddenly at pitch dark, I’m woken up by stubborn and loud knocks on our door. I left the bed horrified thinking the worst and opened to ask what’s the urgency. It turned out to be the hotel receptionist/manager. Who informed me that there was something wrong with my payment earlier night which they hadn’t discovered earlier, and he asked me to go down to the reception within 10 minutes to sort it out. At 05.45 ?!!!!!!! As he only spoke to me in German I gave him the benefit of the doubt and said no problem, Ill come down first thing before breakfast. But no, he insisted i come down within 10 minutes because he was finishing hos night shift and had to close the ”accounts”. I could not believe my ears. We went down furious to the hotel reception to understand why they could not let a long pregnant woman and her sick husband sleep in peace through the night, and they repeated the same message to us, said odd things angrily about them ”having lost alot of money due to this mistake” but admitted that it is their mistake and therefore wanted to offer us breakfast for free. As if breakfast compensates for a half night of sleep?! I did not understand how this could possibly be their work policy, to wake customers up from sleep at pitch dark because of a failed payment that they shpuld have notified me about immedietly at check in, So I called the hotel manager first thing in the morning to get an explanation to this in english. The hotel manager takes my call and is concerned about what she hears and offers to meet first thing in the afternoon to talk i through when she is on site. We agree on time and place and I rush back after work, only to hear that she could not make it from the reception. And when attempting to call her, she declines my calls. WHAT ON EARTH is this circus?! I travel frequently with work and have seen alot in terms of hotels, but this place takes the price in offering the worst customer experience Ive ever had.
Please change your slogan to ” At our hotel we put the customer last”. An utter disaster!
General feedback: beds are a joke. Double beds mean 2 single beds that keep sliding apart at slightest touch. Work desk is a another joke, more a decoration. Far too low desk and chair is a collection of steel threads. Breakfast is only fairly decent thing offered that meets...
Read moreWe booked in here for a recent business trip and were very disappointed. They first couldn't find our booking for one of the guests. Their reservation system was difficult for them to use and didn't have a simple search function. When I tried to adjust our booking online, I also was not able to do so. It took ages to check us in, and the front desk was quite rude. While they were in the middle of a conversation with us, if a colleague walked up to them to talk, they would ignore us and have a 5-minute conversation. There was a que every night with people trying to check in because it took so long, and there was no set order to serving anyone. When standing in a que for whatever reason, if someone ignored the que and walk directly to the counter, they would help them rather which is very frustrating.
My colleague requested assistance with the safe so he could use it and they didn't help even though he asked every day. They forgot to clean my room on one occasion even though on that day they had come to my room while I was out to take the iron I was using. No glasses for drinking water are in the rooms and no wardrobes. My colleague also had a finger nail in his room (that wasn't his). The rooms have "king beds" made of two singles that have separate sheets so you can't sleep over both of them, they also move around a lot at night and you are only given a single bed blanket. A few of us struggled to sleep for the whole trip.
The bar was slow, and again, they didn't help people in order, and there was never enough staff. Seemed like there was no care taken, and I didn't see anyone who looked like a manager or cared the whole trip. It is so easy to get a service business right if there is just a little bit of care and interest, but they had none.
A small point but also relevant, there are two fire doors you have to go through on every floor, they have neumatic assists which can be set to make the doors heavy(or easy) to open and they are set to the hardest setting which makes it difficult when trying to get through them with luggage. Again, an easy fix if someone cared, but it seems no one cares.
All the minor issues wouldn't matter so much if the service was better. But the service was the worst part. A lot can be overlooked if the people in their business cared, but they...
