We decided to visit Dusseldorf, well having been before and loved it I thought my partner should go. We travelled by train using Eurostar to Brussels and onwards with DB. The journey was amazing, so much more relaxing than waiting around at airports. I really recommend doing that. Check it out, it could well be cheaper too, we saved over £200.00.||Hotel Karolinger looks so much better in the pictures, We were quite disappointed on our arrival. The staff were lovely, and the place is very clean but needs a bit of decorating and TLC. Our room likewise was clean but plain, no hot drinks, just a mini bar. and two single beds pushed together, not so good. The shower was tiny and not enough space to use the toilet comfortably. Having said all this it is in a great location for the city and they give you unlimited public transport as part of your room cost. UBahn, Strassenbahn, buses and trains are no more than two minutes walk away. So the city centre and the AltStadt take about 10 minutes. ||Dusseldorf is a clean well laid out city with great shopping and so much to do. A visit to the Konigsallee is a must for shopping with several covered arcades with prices in some cases quite high but all tastes catered for well. 5 minutes from Konigsalle on OstStrasse is Brauerei Schumacher, wonderful German food and the most amazing Alter brewed on site. I renewed my love of eisbein and herrings.||the old town is 5 minutes the other side of the Konidsallee and is full of bars and restaurants catering for tastes from all corners of the world. in its centre is the old town hall, a beautiful old building. Little further takes you on to the bank of the Rhine with more bars and shops. The Schlossturm is the last remaining building of the old castle and is wonderful to see. There are museums and other attractions dotted all over, try the Stadtmuseum, we loved it. At the end of the day, there are several restaurants on the Rhine serving good food (Try the fish) while watching the sun set over the river.||Dusseldorf...
Read moreWe stayed at this place for two nights while in Düsseldorf. The room was on the smaller side, but it was clean and nicely decorated. The TV wasn´t working very well, but the Wi-fi was pretty solid. The room had a small balcony and a minibar (+ complimentary small pack of Haribo sweets was provided).||We didn´t have breakfast - there´s lot of bakeries and supermarkets nearby.||The hotel is located around five minutes from either tram stop Bilk S or Karolingerplatz, with trams both train station and city center /Altastadt/ can be reached in less than twenty minutes. The hotel provided tickets for public transport for the duration of our stay (which saved us around 18 euros).||The neighbourhood (Bilk) is nice, there are parks nearby and lots of young people live in that area because the university is not far away.||I think it is a nice hotel and we wouldn´t mind staying there the next time we visit Düsseldorf. For 97 euros/two night for a twin room, it was a...
Read moreI booked this hotel in advance. I arrived at 4pm and I took out the key from the mail box. There was no reception. I climbed the stairs and when I opened the door of room nr16, I was shocked by the smell of humidity. The wall had yellow stains. Being the room small, made it even worse. It was impossible to breathe. I called the hotel phone number, a lady replied, but she couldn't give me an answer if there was another room available. She was needing to contact the boss. After the 3rd call, and also calling the web site agency, the lady told me that she received confirmation from the owner that there was no room available. To the complain that I submit through the web site the owner replied that they were not able to refund my money because I had use the room and they will need to clean it up. I only stayed 45m at the door of the room, trying to...
