Hotel 4 of 6 on my Euro trip. ||I originally booked 3 nights here but due to a German railway strike I only stayed 2 nights and the hotel kept the room for me although still charged me 3 nights city tax but fair enough I originally booked 3 nights.||After a long 9 hour journey I arrived and saw the glowing red lights on the outdoor area and thought to myself won't that be a nice place to relax for a few beers before heading to bed ||After I checked in and dropped my bags at 10:30 I headed downstairs for a beer only to be informed that yes I can have a beer but they close at 11pm. Ok, fair enough but at this stage I had a thirst of a thousand camels so had my beer rapidly and ordered another to be told that's my last one. At 10:45 I arrived back in to hopefully get another beer but the counter was empty. I asked at reception if the girl was still around and she eventually came at 10:50. ||Asked for a beer and was told she'd just cleaned up and was finished. When I pointed out the time she relented and begrudgingly gave me a beer which I finished before the ridiculous 11pm curfew. Bear in mind I did tell her I was a resident and enquired about a residents bar.||This annoyed me so much that I could find no other positives in the hotel. First impressions and all that. My room was a twin with the smallest single beds I've ever encountered on any of my trips. It was also very cold with no obvious way to control the temperature and I ended up using the other blanket from the single bed beside me just to keep warm. The TV was tiny and outdated, there was hardly any plug sockets for charging devices except those that you had to move furniture to reach, the shower was ok but don't expect a deep scrub! There was a desk with a view of a wall and a welcome guide that was empty except for a flyer that you'd pick up in the lobby anyways. No blackout curtains which didn't really matter as the light couldn't reach the window due to the view being a wall ||The only positive was a complimentary mini bar with some beers, juice, water and peanuts. The location is also excellent directly across from the main station and that is why it gets an extra Star.||I probably would have tried breakfast but due to the first nights debacle I didn't bother. Overall a disappointing stay and only for I got a good rate on hotels.com Vs paying their direct rates I would never have stepped foot on this premises. ||This may have been the worst hotel of my trip so far. What was once I'm sure was a grand hotel in it's day is in need of serious renovation especially with modern funky hotels such as the prizotel and premier Inn on the opposite side of the station for half the price. ||If you can't provide grandeur and least...
Read moreConveniently located next to the central train station.
Need a central place, close to transportation and dining options, and this where we ended up. A 2-3 min walk to the central train station, a subway line, several malls and eating places. Uber was about 21 euros from the airport, and there is an S5 train also from the airport.
Rooms were nice, a bit on the small side, a small fridge, and with the traditional separate covers for 2 people sleeping on a large bed. Staff spoke English and check-in and check-out was processed efficiently.
One bar located on the hotel premises that also served a somewhat limited selection of food. On a couple of afternoons, we had refreshments on the outside tables right next to the hotel entrance. A nice covered spot to kick back, but there are homeless people who wander in the open plaza fronting the train station, and may attempt to panhandle for money, including this restaurant area.
Since my room overlooked the open plaza facing the train station, somehow the window did not completely seal completely, so some outside noise leaked in, including those from the homeless people. But despite all this, when we walked outside during the day or early evenings, I did not feel unsafe.
All in all, it was an adequate place and willingly paid a bit more for the centralized convenience. If the hotel had more amenities, that would have...
Read moreIt's a classy hotel but not not a typical 4 star for Germany...and overpriced. service and staff are great and hotel is very Central. The rooms are dated would be nice if they updated the rooms and keep a vintage style. Very hard to find a hotel with a bathtub in washroom. the room we booked luckily had a bathtub which was wonderful to relax in. Bathroom is nicely renovated but the door to access the bathroom is really hard to open and are very narrow. To fill up the bath tub you need to step In to the tub to turn on the water on because the glass wall is in the way. The Beds are ok. Pillows are too soft. But they were nice to bring up a firm pillow. tv is small no movies or pay per view tv..to select a different language. Free mini bar. Room Cleaning was good . Restaurant was good but don't order the Veal..very chewy. Room service restaurant menu on has only 5 or six items to choose from. Cafe and restaurant are beautiful. All in all was just nice to soak in a bathtub and nice friendly service and to be very Central to the shopping. If you are looking for modern rooms this is not...
