My travel agent booked this assuring us it was a nice hotel. We asked for 4-5 stars but supposedly none were available even though we booked 8 months in advance. That may have been because of our need for air conditioning and two rooms, with at least one of which had to have two separate beds for our adult children. Sadly this was the worst hotel of our whole stay in Germany.
First let’s start with the positives. It has great water pressure and wifi. They have AC and while they limit the setting to no cooler than 18 degrees Celsius, it does cool adequately. The beds are comfortable. The hotel is about a 12 minute walk to the main train station. The breakfast is fine, although not exceptional when compared to the other hotels that we stayed in on our vacation. There is a train stop outside the hotel. Our waitress the first day was cheerful and helpful, even asking our young adult children what they would like to drink. (The waitress the last two days didn’t even acknowledge them). The front desk workers are also very pleasant and helpful.
Onto the negatives, which are plentiful. The place is old and has not been updated in a very long time. I guess to some people that is charming. While they seem to keep it clean, the bathroom showers are still moldy. They are clearly a budget hotel geared toward budget conscious travelers (of which we are not). They provide only one pillow per person although they will give you an extra if you ask. They only provide one tiny bar soap and two tiny bottles of body wash per room. They do not even have tissues in the room and when we requested some they gave us napkins. The keys are not electronic so you must turn in your key at the front desk when you leave the hotel and retrieve them at the front desk when you come back. You can’t take them with you because of the large keychain they are attached to. That means it is very obvious when you are not in your room. When you leave your room for the day, they come in and open the screen-less windows, which shut off the AC. So after a long day of walking and sweating, you arrive to a warm room. The small lobby and part of the first floor stinks of cigarette smoke. While the location is a 12 minute walk to the main station, the area is not in the best part of town and far away from anything most tourist are going to want to visit. Basically to get to the side of town where the sites are will take at least 25 minutes on the various trains, if not more with transfer times. Even though the location is not prime, we at no point felt unsafe.
If you are on a budget this hotel should be adequate. If you are used to a bit more luxury, then you should look elsewhere. This is NOT a three star hotel by most people’s standards (at least not by US standards). It is what we would consider a 2 star hotel in the US, max. If you are here as a tourist, I’d suggest trying to stay in the Marienplatz area. Not only is that area close to everything you would want to see, it’s a much nicer area of town, and once there you can walk to everything of interest and will be close to all of the best...
Read more5 out of 5, will book here again. Some things here may make you think you would give it 4 stars, but it's just preference, time of year, etc. Short story - for what you get, the price, the location... this is a perfect hotel. Location: very close to main train station, u-bahn, s-bahn, tram, everything. This does mean it can be noisy. We were here during Oktoberfest with a street facing window, 2 flights up. With the windows shut and noise machine on, we could barely hear anything. Staff: all super friendly and ready to help, perfect! Amenities: they don't over-advertise - what they claim to have they do very well. Breakfast is amazing. Sausage, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, a dozen bread/pastry options, multiple sliced meat and cheese, marinated veggies, fresh veggies, oatmeal with accessories to add, decent coffee and tea, fresh fruit and juice. Every morning, from 6am til 10am. There is a bar, they will serve drinks on request, we were not around during normal bar operating house to see what it is like. Ice - like in most places in Germany, hard to get ice, but that's how it goes. Air Con - it is in some rooms and not in others. make sure you ask. And it does not go below 20c, this was fine as it was below 20 at night when we were there. There is a "business" computer, but we didn't need to use it. Room: main area - very clean, some marks on the walls from people hitting them with luggage, but no issues. Clean carpet, good sheets. Bed was firm, sort of like a US foam mattress. Pillows and blankets clean and soft. bathroom - small, but very usable for 2 people, soap, shampoo, body wash provided. Water was medium temp during the main part of the morning. And could get very hot in the afternoon, so likely they have one main heater and if multiple people are showering it doesn't get as hot. Good space for storing clothes, and a desk with 2 chairs. Double curtains for privacy and keeping out light. Stairs and elevator available. The building is older, so it is a small elevator. 2 people with luggage is the...
Read moreThis is an average hotel not far from Munich Central Station. The breakfast is excellent. The rooms themselves, however, are somewhat outdated. Be sure to understand that a basic room may not include a shower and/or toilet. You will need to use a community shower and a (self-cleaning) toilet down the hall. Upon arrival, the reception staff was, measured by U.S. standards, somewhat short-lipped, or what some may consider slightly rude. Do not expect U.S. American friendliness when conversing with the staff. The staff was, however, very accommodating and checked me into the room an hour early. Other important things to note: if you have a shower in your room you will notice that the shower head is installed at such an awkward angle that you have but two options while taking a shower: you can either contort your body in an awkward acrobatic twist to avoid having the water tap digging into your back or else attempt to adjust the shower head itself and flood the bathroom. Also be advised that you will have to return your key to the 24 hour reception desk whenever you leave the premises (a practice you may find either charming or hopelessly outdated). The door to the rooms offers neither key card access nor a separate bolt lock. It can only be locked from the inside with your room key. Overall, this hotel is decent enough for a short stay in Munich, and feels one step up from a youth hostel, especially if your room lacks a toilet/...
