I am not sure how this hotel qualifies as 5 stars anymore. Maybe at one point it did but the quality is that of a 3 star hotel in terms of facilities and service. The room we stayed in had mold on the walls, a leaky sink, old handprints (probably lube) on the headboard, dusty surfaces, rough sheets, no bathtub, poor service, and very dated interiors.
I tagged along on my husband’s work trip. It was my first trip since having our baby who is almost 4 months old. He wanted to book a nice hotel so we would be comfortable and he looked for a 5 star hotel. We wanted a king bed, room service, and a pool to swim with the baby. In the booking I saw that he also ordered flowers for the room. It was very sweet and I was so excited to get out of the house and travel.
After he booked the hotel I noticed that the website said the pool and spa were closed, but that guests could use a nearby hotels facilities. We discussed moving hotels, but decided to continue with the booking.
Unfortunately this hotel did not live up to expectations set by Google reviews or their own website. The interior is very dated and in need of repair. The service is hit or miss. Some people were nice, but most are doing the bare minimum. I don’t blame them.
I was never greeted when I walked in or out of the hotel. No big deal. More importantly, the front door was barely manned, which is alarming because it’s right by the train station and they have guest bags all over the lobby. We never received the flowers. I mentioned it twice to two different people, no one seemed interested in correcting the mistake or looking into it.
The first room we were given was small and did not have a king bed, despite all the rooms on their website claiming to have 25 square meters and king beds. I politely asked to be moved and a nice man at the front desk gave me “a really great room”. It did indeed have a king bed but the next morning I found that the sink was leaking water, which came down the half wall of the bathroom and made a puddle in the sleeping area of the room. This was after normal usage of washing my face and brushing my teeth. I inspected the area and saw that there was mold on the wall and rot in the wood.
There are no full walls in the room. The bathrooms are sectioned off with glass sliding doors so there is virtually no privacy for using the toilet. You can hear everything. And the entire bathroom gets flooded if two people shower.
I went down to the front desk to tell them about the leak. The man was dismissive about my concerns and said he’d get someone to fix it. I said fixing mold was not an hour long job and I would like a new room. He said he would have maintenance inspect it and to come back later.
I returned twice. One of the times they asked ME if the maintenance man had been there. It’s not my job to track these things; I’m on vacation. The leak was never resolved, the mold was never taken care of, we were never offered another room or even asked about the leak. Honestly I just gave up because I figured it wouldn’t make a difference.
The same day I noticed many handprints in lube on the silver vinyl headboard. Very gross. One of the stools was covered in dust and the coffee machine had some kind of crusty white stuff on it and lots of dust in crevices. I waited to see if housekeeping would get the handprints or the dust. It didn’t happen, so I cleaned the handprints off myself using baby wipes. It was easy to do, but alarmed me that the rest of the room was not being cleaned well.
The bed was basically a box spring with a duvet on it. The box spring had no sheet or mattress protection. Very gross. It was very uncomfortable and the sheets were so rough they left tiny dreads in my baby’s hair.
The “complimentary” water was already opened. Maybe they are refilling the bottles and hoping no one notices.
On the last day, housekeeping walked in without announcing themselves at 9.00.
Don’t stay here. The positive reviews must be fake because even if the suites were very nice, the rest of the hotel still falls far...

Hospitality - 5/5 Cleanliness - 5/5 Amenities - 5/5 Overall - 5/5
We are going to start this review by saying this was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Period. From the time we checked it to the time we left; we had an outstanding experience! We only had only one suggestion which we will talk about below.
After having to level a horrible AirBnB, my wife and I franticly search for a hotel that we could stay at for 3 days and over a weekend in Munich. Not an easy task. However, some how we found Sofitel. We left our AirBnB immediately after finding the hotel and were welcome graciously upon arrival. I’d like to first thank Umut, who checked us in. He was nice, up beat and welcoming. So welcoming he knew we were unhappy, and asked if there was anything he could do. To which we replied, an enjoyable experience. We then explained what we had just gone through. We was blown away. He kindly gave us drink vouchers for the hotel’s bar, saying we would defiantly need a drink after what we had gone through.
Next, it was like fate, ironically there was a convention being held at the hotel and they actually needed the kind of room we booked. From there Umut and manager Julian Muller kindly up graded us to a Junior Suite. We were beyond grateful. Umut finished the check in and got us on our way. The junior suite as cleaning, warm, two levels, and had a view of both Munich and Alps. It was incredible! During our stay it was quite and we never heard anyone. The room in full was clean and had no flaws. Never had a complaint there. We enjoyed the room to it’s fullest.
We did end up enjoying a couple of drinks after dropping our bags and had no complains there either. The bar maid was amazing and full of life. Even suggesting a couple of craft drinks that the hotel was known for. Which we both agreed to having and were not disappointed.
From there we headed back to our room to call it a night. To our surprise, while in our room, room service showed up. They brought us a complimentary bottle of Prosecco. We were beside ourselves by this point.
As our stay continued for the next few days, we used the concierge and enjoyed all the suggestions they gave us. Not one was bad. Again, they were kind, open, and ready to help.
Now, as I said earlier, we enjoyed our stay to the fullest. Having no complaints, but rather one suggestions. That was on our last day, having breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant on our way out. The overall food was good. Quite the selection. From breads, oats, meats, pretzel, eggs, and even honey comb. Top shelf. However, for the cost was quite hight. Even for all the goodies, it was high. But it was a top hotel and sometimes when you stay at places like this, it going to cost. Again, not complaining one bit! The breakfast was amazing. Just had a little sticker shock was all.
To any one looking to have a grand experience while in Munich, we would highly suggest Sofitel. Moreover, we would like to take a moment and specifically thank Umut and Julian Muller for making our stay one we will...
Read moreUpdate: the manager - Umut - made it right. He got me a new room and is seriously concerned about quality. Although I haven’t been, I will update with photos in the future! Moving the review from 4 stars to 5 stars.
So I think this is probably one of the nicer if not nicest hotels in Munich. My experience was just a little bit off and I felt like they tried to make it right. Probably some things I did wrong in terms of I should have contacted the manager instead of the front reception. I booked it via American Express platinum and usually they have a letter that tells you if there are any additional benefits which was not included and understandably they were full, so there was no upgrades, which was ok. I booked on the website what would be considered the luxury room and I think it’s a really cute room really well designed. Although it is compact, there is a nice bathroom, bathtub, shower, bed chair, and reading nook, which I love. The closet was missing hangers but nothing to complain about. I spent an extra €30 to buy fresh flowers for the room. I noted on their Wi-Fi that there wasn’t a letter that is usually there and they brought a bottle of champagne to the room to compensate which was above and beyond. the next day, they upgraded me to the junior suite which I didn’t realize didn’t have a bathtub and in my eyes is not as well put together as the luxury room. The junior suite is on eighth floor, and if you have a chance, try to get the Alps view instead of the city view, which is not the greatest. There was no bathtub and the closet is upstairs a small walk-in closet and the bidet was broken. Has he’s incredible retractable curtains for these huge windows, which is pretty amazing. When I was sitting in the toilet around 11 o’clock, the cleaning lady actually walked in on me even though I think it was obvious I was in the room since my shoes were off and stuff. I think that’s partially my fault since I didn’t put the tag out so I was not mad about that. I went downstairs and asked if I could change to a different room that had a bathtub, and although I secretly hope they would upgrade me they brought me back to the luxury room, which I am waiting now. I think if I had mentioned it to a manager, they probably would’ve made it right but that said, I would recommend this hotel to others just probably not that junior suite I would just go for the king suite unless you loved the view via the big windows and don’t care about bathtubs. Somehow the luxury room feels more luxurious, even though the junior suite is larger. I would stay again the next time if I had issues, I probably would try to find the manager instead of the receptionist.
