My partner and I stayed in Munich for three nights in August 2018. Out of the 8 hotels I stayed in around Europe this trip, I have to say this was my least favourite. It felt more like a nice hostel than a hotel. We checked out after two nights and stayed with a friend instead, which was much more fun. When we arrived at Arthotel Munich, I was immediately disappointed with the art. I'm not sure about the design choices - a lot seemed quite budget. And the artistic deer heads we had in our room were covered in dust and not looked after. We had booked a double room, and were originally put in a long skinny room with two separate beds. I went down to reception and then they relocated us to another room 319 where the bed was together. We'd just gotten engaged so separate beds was definitely not ideal! I'm glad they were flexible and moved us. The room had gummy bears on the bed which was nice, but i found it strange that the quilt was separate, and that it was folded on top rather than made up. It was very hot in Munich while we were there and we had the aircon running hard. Sadly it didn't seem to cool the room down nearly as much as we would have liked. I was sad that they turned it off by the cleaner when we went out. It was cooler in the corridor than in our room! We slept poorly as a result. The toiletries provided were in big containers, which is great for recycling, but I was a bit sad not to get the cute miniatures like you normally do in hotels. Plus, they were not high quality - the shower had an all-in-one shampoo/conditioner/body wash and it was really bad for my hair. I also thought it wasn't well cleaned - the radiator was really quite gross on close inspection, the hairdryer was stuck to the wall and dirty, and the magnifying mirror was over the toilet and not movable so you had to lean funny to make use of it - they didn't really think about how you use things when designing this space. I was excited to have breakfast included in the price, but the buffet selection was a bit of a random selection of non desirable foods. The bacon was super over cooked and so I ended up having just toast. The hotel was really central though, and very conveniently located near the train station. I booked this hotel as I had heard it had a hotel dog from reviews, and sure enough there was a beautiful old dog at breakfast time. But despite a beautiful pet, I wouldn't want to stay here again. The photos from management look much better than what we got, I wonder if I needed to upgrade? I still think we should have got more value for money than we did. I hope this review is helpful to...
Read moreWe received excellent service at this hotel during our check in provided by Aaryan. Aaryan helped guide us into the parking garage, was super friendly and got us a room in the main tower where there was an elevator to use (despite our booking in the less expensive annex room). He even offered to provide us suggestions for the sunny weather during our stay in Munich and made sure to say hello and check in on us each time we saw it. It was natural and friendly customer service. The hotel is a little older and has some interesting decor. The room had a futon couch, a good bed, desk area, coffee/tea station, closet, mini fridge (with some pop and water you could pay for), an iPod dock, a good sized TV, and plenty of counter space to put our things. They provided gummy bears and a couple of cookies in our room too which was nice. The bed was comfy for me and the hotel can provide more bedding or pillows on request. We felt the cleanliness could have been better as our tea cups were a bit dirty. The bathroom was interesting with two stools but really a place to put them. The shower was not our favourite with no door or shower curtain and the glass was not enough to keep the water in. There is an all in one shampoo/body wash that was ok. The towels were a little thin and could use replacement. The cost of the hotel was good and we felt it was a decent location. It is a bit far from the main attractions of Munich but it has good public transport access including the nearby central station which is less than 10 minutes away from the hotel. There are a few restaurants and convenience stores by the hotel that are open quite late and there are some Bavarian/Oktoberfest souvenir stores nearby. I felt safe walking around alone at night to get a late night doner. The breakfast at the hotel is pretty good with a good variety of food including deli meats, cheeses, bread, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee and tea. There was lots of seating available including some artsy chairs. There is limited parking at this hotel and it is very tight so we are glad we rented a compact. If you choose to park here you have to go in to see reception so they can open the door and guide you to your spot. It may also be recommended to contact the hotel in advance to reserve a spot. The front desk initially said it was 20 euros for parking but charged us 22. There are other parkades nearby but due to the construction in the area we felt there was convenient having the car parked...
