This was a great experience for our family! This is a youth hostel with very reasonable prices. You can get just the bed, or bed with breakfast, or bed with breakfast and a packed lunch. That way you can sight see without having to worry about lunch, or you can get just the basics and enjoy dining in the town of Bacharach, just below the castle. This town is very cute! You feel like you are in a medieval town back in the day. Lots of cute restaurants, shops, and bakeries to check out! One of the shops there will hand make a wooden sign with your message on it while you wait, or you can buy some of the pre-made signs. The one we chose? We tweaked a message he had on a sign to read "Our house is clean enough to be healthy, and dirty enough to be happy!" There is a very long staircase that will take you from the town up to the castle if you are coming in on the train, but there is also a road that comes in from the top. If you have a car, there is parking up on the hill behind the castle and it is much easier to wrangle your bags from there instead of carrying them up the very long staircase. We have two young kids, but because it wasn't very crowded, they were very nice and gave us an entire room to ourselves. There were at least 10 bunkbeds in the room. ||The view from the castle is amazing! You can see up and down the river easily, and the vineyard on the side of the hill is nice as well.||It's a great place to stay as you check out the...
Read moreHi all at Hostel Burg Stahleck I was there last week at the Karate Pratix seminar. I loved it there, and to be honest who wouldn't, I spent four days in a castle sleeping in a tower like a princess, with amazing views. And I met some lovely people. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, we had our own bathroom and shower. There was two of us sharing a four person room. The food was delicious, and the chef had no issues with me asking for a gluten free option. He was so kind and always had a delicious meal set aside for me. When making your reservation mention to the staff if you have dietary requirements, so the chef can prepare beforehand. The other two people who were lovely were the man behind the counter in the dining hall, and the lady on reception anything I asked for they would get for me. Be prepared for a 15 minute up hill walk to the castle, which is mainly wooden steps and path. It is quite steep and make sure you have water with you, as you will need it. The only thing I could criticize on was the early check out, as we were having breakfast between 8 and 9, and our karate class started at 9. So this did not give us much time to get up, dressed, fed, strip beds and tidy a bit, and put the last few bits in our bags. But other than that the view was amazing and the atmosphere was so relaxing, the castle was beautiful and the staff were amazing. See you all next year Thanks for...
Read moreWe stayed here for one night to break up a longer drive across Europe with my husband an two boys (9 & 12). We were all so impressed with this find.... I mean, it’s a castle right?! With stunning views over the Rhine. It’s in a great location with easy access to the quaint old photogenic town below just 15 mins via some steps directly outside the hostel. We ate in town at Cafe Burg Stahleck which I thought was good quality and value.||Facilities at the hostel are good - drinks, snacks and food all at reasonable prices. The room was very basic but fine. We had a large family room with private bathroom - there were 7 bunks and a little table & chairs. The view was outstanding. There’s a nice courtyard where you can sit and look over the river, and a family room with toys & games and a ping pong table outside.||Breakfast was nice, and the entire price for this experience cannot be faulted. Take your kids & manage your expectations around accommodation standards and you...
